Ok, so If I go through the motions like the old ways with added things, will it work?

1. Put update on external SD card.

2. Create Voodoo / SU root file

3. Temp unroot

4. Install update from SD card.

5. crank up SU and Voodoo and restore back up.

Sound right?

So long as you go into your superuser app and check for updated su binary first, yes.

Do we have an md5 for this file?  I want to make extra sure no "borking" occurs when I flash this shiznit.

I'm not either Sam, only as a last resort if nobody can come up with a way to perm the root.

Yea, I mean if we find out there's not a root exploit that works, I'm going to do the update but I'm going to be VERY careful about it.

ok can we have a list of what has been tested and what has not?

Would anything from the Razr's work for us (not the new Razr's)? Did they not use OMAP in those?

Should we make a different thread for testing purposes so as to not get things all messy here?

I think someone tried RAZR Blade.  However, I'd like a trusted tester to try it.  I'm hoping Kaos gets his ass in gear and starts testing on his bionic soon.  Motocatcher will *NOT* work.  No sense in even bothering as it won't work on OMAP phones.

Why is Moto taking root from us ? What is their problem ? Is that their big surprise for us ? Leaving us without root and locked down forever.

Jerkoffs !

They never gave us root to begin with.

Yea, and VZW requires the phone be locked down.  Moto couldn't care less.

It's going to be a little bit longer for me.  I got to work and half of my systems were borked.... There was a power outage with a HUGE surge prelude that hit (156 volts).  Fried a couple of things.  I have to get that all fixed first..... and call the power company......

I saw that there was media sharing?  Is that the samba sharing in the files APK?  I doubt it, but I thought I'd ask

Since this is not my main phone anymore....I am completely Stock no Root...   Copied to SD-EXT and ran update from Recovery.

HOB Rocks.  I used HOB to upgrade to 246, and had no issues updating to JB.   Not like I ever doubted...

Do I need to 'temp unroot' in voodoo to apply update from SD or will it go over just fine? I just figure that for everyone who is rooted already - wouldnt it just overwrite?

Sam,

Thanks for all the instructions, followed them to the letter, copied the update to the external sd card, booted into recovery, installed the update, restored root, and re-installed safe-strap.  Everything worked perfectly and I still have root.

You guys are quite welcome.  I'm glad it's working out for everyone.  I still haven't taken it as I'm waiting on testing.

One quick question: do I have to delete the rom slots ( NOT STOCK) from SS before I uninstall?

I'm not 100% sure on that, but I don't believe so.  Just uninstall SS.

Thanks, but here is my dilemma. I dl'd JB update from your link. Flashed back to stock, made sure su binary was up to date, voodoo'd and then removed ss. I then went into stock recover and the update failed. :( it aborts.

Now, the stock rom was recreated a few weeks back using this:

I wonder if that borked the original stock ROM OR I have a bad download from your link (not that your link is bad) but maybe it didn't dl all the way or something.

If that stock rom using the aforementioned link broke it, i will now have to wait 2 weeks to get to my laptop as I am on biz travel and use the Chromebook. :( But, I can always reinstall SS and CM Rom's to hold me over.

Um, you can't use a ROM. You have to be FULLY stock.  Not SS stock.
