I was one of them at the time. And I understand your hardline approach. I just don't think you're very fair about it - you assume everyone will mess something up.

Then they don't need the HoB now do they? :)

Need and want are not the same.

No, they don't need it, but they sure want it b/c it makes life a lot easier.

I didn't need the original one click root methods either, but after rooting my phone 2 or three times manually, it sure became a lot easier ot have tool to do it even though I knew I could do it manually.

That assumption is based on what's being asked for. He's not asking for 247. He's asking for something to install it for him. How can you not see that?

I do see that - but it's not an assumption b/c I had a discussion with him in PM about it. So, maybe you're the one assuming here?

Whatever. I'm certainly not going to argue about it. I don't care if you think I'm being fair or not. It's my prerogative.

See like i stated earlier he has changed.

I understand his point of view don't get me wrong. He did help point out the issue for me but who makes something and doesn't keep an older version around somewhere in that case where someone requests it or may one day need it.

As for my knowledge on the subject I do believe i have been around for some time now throughout the life of HoB and before it was even a thought.

So then why isn't it done? I don't get this. You flash 3 things and then apply the update. This conversation has taken longer than doing it by hand would have. That's my confusion...there's no need for finding an older version of the HoB to do it.

Hey, Sam teaches us how to fish, usually giving us the rod, bait and hook. But when going in the unintended direction, he prefers that we do it ourselves. John you certainly did with the early ICS leaks, I did much later. Twinkiz just did without it being handed to him. Not too shabby. I thought 247 ran a little better. Nbd ;) at lest fot me. I like IcarusHD, sometimes with a little jb.

Yup. I've said from the beginning that the HoB is just an automation for things you should already know how to do. I made it "easy" so a lot of people ended up using it who honestly shouldn't have and ended up overloading me with support. That wasn't enjoyable. I prefer that people take the time to learn so that when things don't go "according to plan" you know how to work through it rather than panicking and PM'ing me 500 times across 7 forums. ;) The idea behind the HoB was to help people get to a level of knowledge where they feel comfortable doing these things to their phone. It was NEVER intended as a shortcut for not having to learn.

Yeah, that's the unfortunate side of make these tools - when it gets easier for people to use, more people will use them without knowing what's really going on. The development fGUI-based installers for Linux falls into the same category. More people started using Linux, but the support threads grew astronomically.

My first *nix was Corel Linux which was a great distro but I didn't learn anything because it was too easy to install. Slackware was what made me learn.

Yup. Which is why I have the policies I have now. You wanna use the HoB? No problem. You wanna use it without reading and learning? Fine....BUT don't ask for help if you screw it up. It seems reasonable that if I put together all that information that I can expect them to read it before they expect me to help them.

Just received a replacement Bionic because the camera on my old one lost the ability to focus. Trying to root. Have tried HOB and DroidRazr both in Windows 7 and on my Mac. In all instances it hangs at the first step and is either resetting ADB or waiting for device. Device is connected in MTP mode I have all the latest drivers (Windows). I Checked all the items in the FAQ, but was reluctant to do a factory reset since I had just gotten the phone and done a fair amount of configuration. Well, today I finally did a reset and it worked as expected. Thanks for the great work you do.

Read the faq and didn't see this in there.
All seems well and done, phone rebooted, but RSD is just asking me to manually reboot, and HOB hasn't done anything...
Do I need to go into fastboot or did I miss something. Last time I used it, I believe HOB had further prompts.

Not sure what part of the process you're on. To flash in RSD the phone needs to be in AP Fastboot mode. Once that's done, it should reboot automatically.
