BTW, just helped a guy root an HTC Evo Shift, total PITA. Along the lines of your most recent discussion here, had to downgrade him two versions, then root, then OTA with a deodexed, rooted version of the one he started with. I dread going that direction with our devices, but VZW seems intent on proving that Dan is a genius (we already knew that) by continuing to up the ante, when they should really be focused on better service and less attitude.
Thanks dudes. Sorry for long post.

Hi there John, Sam, et al. I feel a bit naked wandering into Da Haus. Hopefully, since I actually have a Bionic Q, this will not be OT. I'm trying to help a guy who got a used Bionic and is signed up for one of those low monthly alternative carrier plans (dropping VZW - bless his soul). Regardless, he's having radio issues (across the board - 3G/4G/data), and can't seem to resolve them, leading him to try all kinds of foolish things. He sent me the phone info and he's on system version .246 but the build says .233. I've never looked at phone info on a Bionic, but I assume that's how it should look, typical Moto numbering system on the official releases. Just want to confirm - not hugely relevant since I'm going to suggest he try a new SIM card and flash stock .246 regardless.

FWIW, we now have to downgrade the Infinity's 4 versions (from current) to get rooted lol....
As for VZW - as soon as they nix unlimited data a lot of us will make them feel the error of their ways. Trust me. Coverage used to be a major factor when my account was started - not so much anymore. All the players have decent coverage in most areas now, so that is moot....

You ain't kidding. I got a tower a quarter mile away so ask me if I care which carrier I use. LOL. Well, ok, I HATE sprint but that's another story. If VZW takes away my unlimited, I'm gone.

At home mine is less than a half mile away, so I'm pretty secure, too. Plus, in my neighborhood, we're the second highest house in a 5 square mile area - my reception at home is nothing short of ecstatic.

Thanks to both of you. I had a phone once that I bought outright and was on month-to-month. Let me tell you, the customer service quality improves dramatically when they don't own you or think they own your device. I'm looking forward to that. Funny thing is, unrooted phones have always gone kaput on about a 12-month schedule, but I beat my RAZR on a regular basis and somehow it still won't break. Then again, it doesn't have any crapware on it to wear it down while still in its prime.

I'm only ever buying unlockable phones ever again. No more messing around.
Me too, which means I'm stuck with my BIONIC for a while as I'm unemployed and currently graduated with my Masters....

Yeah, I understand. I've been in Hawai'i since Dec 12. Bills are piling up.

No complaining from me. I feel for all who aren't able to find a job. That's just not ok. As for a new phone, get something unlockable and do yourself a favor.
That's why I never complain about having mine. It may suck at times but its always been good, and for that I'm thankful
