Do we have a new home or is everything shut down?

Not that we can pull it, so this doesn't do us any good, but, the Bionic JB build is in testing. Same version as the D4 and RAZR builds.

It definitely is good news, but, even if we could pull the build (cheesecake is dead), we can't install it. New security with an unrootable build creates a very ugly situation. We'll be able to keep root through the official OTA update but if we install any leaks, we'd lose root permanently.

Wait, so OTA allows for root survival, but otherwise FXZing to this build (or what the actual future JB build is) will lock us out of root entirely?

Nice. I was talking SPJester lat night in the chat room, and he was trying to break that very problem. I mentioned that the same thing happened with Asus Transformers (I have the Infinity). All JB builds have no direct rooting method. However, you can downgrade to the very last ICS build, root that, then use VooDoo OTA rootkeeper (some have also reported that superuser's native OTA root survival setting works) to keep root after re-applying the JB update. This works on locked bootloader versions of Prime and Infinity.

However, if Motoroogle (Should that be Gootorola? That sounds way more hilarious!) is releasing a build with a new CDT security in place, and we cannot downgrade back to ICS, then this is a much bigger problem for us. No more using FXZs to fix b0rken devices, eh? Sounds like your HoB utility is about to be severely upgraded to help fix b0rken devices....

There is no solution. You get one shot at keeping root going to jb. If you screw up the device, I won't be able to save root for you. Remember the scenario you and I were concerned about for ics and root? Well, we face it now. I have no good solution to the problem I'm afraid.

Dan is not very motivated to find new exploits. He keeps saying that people who want root should buy unlockable phones. Then you can make a custom recovery and push su to acquire root.

Well, since I'm now forced to buy unsubsidized phones b/c of my desire to maintain my unlimited data plan, that is a much more realistic approach for me anyway.

Same for me. I'm not buying any more locked phones. Once you unlock it and install a custom recovery (which apparently can be built for most phones fairly easily), you could create a zip file to install su quite easily. Root done. :)

Exactly. Rooting an unlocked Infinity, for example, goes that route, or else you just install a custom (pre-rooted) ROM....

Yup. That's the route (hehe) I'll be taking on all my future devices. The locked bootloader experiment for me has been a failure. I thought I could live with it but if they insist on continually blocking root, then screw em. Looking for root exploits is not exactly "fun". There's very few people willing to put in the work. And far fewer who are actually capable of finding them.

lol yup. I took the BIONIC b/c of the hardware and b/c I honestly believed that there would be an unlocked bootloader around the corner. Learned my lesson about locked bootloaders after that and the Infinity - while I can unlock the bootloader, if i do I forfeit my OEM warranty.

Funk dat.

Here's the thing about unlocked bootloaders. My Xoom LTE....still waiting for official JB 4.1.2. The WiFi Xoom has had it since July. Because it's unlocked, I've got JB 4.2 running on it thanks to Team EOS. That will NEVER be officially released for any Xoom.

Preaching to the choir. I have ICS on my OG DROID....it matches my BIONIC rather nicely in terms of feel, and I'll eventually find a use for it - even if it is a simple SIP client so I can use Google Voice for VoIP without having it attached to a contract of any kind....

Is there a fix for the 3G/4G issue with HoB .246? All of a sudden today I am no longer getting 3G or 4G and getting problems with downloading off 1x signal, only thing working fast is WiFi downloads. I live in a 4G area just outside of Indianapolis so I know it's not the signal here, always been a strong 4G.
Devices: Droid Bionic, Nexus 7
