I'll come back later and report on progress, thanks!
I fear this may be too much fun so I'll have to watch myself - I think we have a similar sense of humor. You know what happens rubbing two sticks together.....

Is anyone having problems seeing the 3 sticky threads for the HoB, HoB release notes, and HoB FAQ? No one should be able to reply, but, you can at least see the threads, yes?
Yes, threads are visible, but locked. To be clear, I can read them, but not reply.

Yes...all 3 'Pinned' threads now available as single page threads. Good housekeeping job.

Ok. I'm asking cause someone is saying they can't get to the threads at all which I know isn't right cause someone just downloaded all the files. I just wanted to see if others were having any issues.
Hi, if these are the links you are talking about, then no, I can't see them...

1. I thought I read everything twice. And I did. But it didn't mean as much as it did AFTER I went through the process.
2. I don't use webtop (at least I don't think so), so I elected to NOT install it - it was an option. I too got the black screen. I fumbled a bit and searched and found the solution (webtop). I saw the rename the file, install as per OP, etc. but those buttons didn't click for me. I eventually figured it out and found the .disable file, edited it, started over and blasted right through with no issues.
3. suggestion - take the webtop option out, just install it. (I'm new at this, so this may be dumb as wood, I'll accept that feedback).
I haven't gone beyond the basic setup yet. WHen I restart the phone, it is looking for a sim card. This is a back up phone, so no sim card. Is there a way to get past this step and "set up the phone" using the internet/wireless connection? Or do I need to go get a sim card?
EDIT: I"ve googled quite a bit, and came up with the 4 corner trick in various forms. Nothing seems to work, can't get past the "need sim card". Any other links someone can send me to?

As for webtop, you chose the option to disable it. For those that understand what disabling it means, I choose to have that as an option. It's not about whether you use it or not. That's irrelevant. The option is there for those that were already on ICS leaks and had the latest webtop flashed already. Since it's so big and takes so long, most of us have no desire to repeatedly flash something that's already on our phones and doesn't change. If you're coming from a pre-ICS build, you need to flash it the first time...whether you use it or not.

yes, seems like this would work - but sizes are different. I'll have to pick up an adapter. oh well........... bit of a holding pattern!
I'm thinking there is a provision in settings.db that can turn off the check for the sim card. Might have to be brave to try it though lol.

Since this is a back up, I may just give it a shot!

i think u r right. I found a process that uses adb and a lot of letters and punctuation marks, and mentions settings.db.
Since this is a back up, I may just give it a shot!
In adb
# $ adb shell
# $ su
# $ cd /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases
# $ sqlite3 settings.db
# INSERT INTO system (name, value) VALUES ('device_provisioned', 1);
# .exit
# $ reboot
But I am think that provision is in secure not system on the 5th cmd line.

I appreciate the help for sure - unless this is an easy one to fix, no need to work it here and take up this space.
Thank you, for trying!
