Well I think hob is great the way it is now, and I think you're right by typing a tutorial for adding leaks, adding fxz, General use, fix common issues should they arise. And I'd add screen shots showing the proper folder layout.

Yea, that was the idea I was going for with a tutorial. I mean I've laid it all out there in the OP and the FAQ, but, sometimes people need a step by step guide. Generally speaking, I've not wanted to deal with that level of support and have created a barrier of entry to at least being able to follow the OP and FAQ. The question is how to get people to the level of knowledge and comfort so that they can successfully be able to do that. I don't expect everyone to become experts on every little detail. But I do expect that they know enough that if something goes wrong, they should be able to troubleshoot it and either figure out a fix or be competent enough to provide enough information for someone to be able to help them. "It didn't work" posts get ignored by me because if I responded it would only to be to rip them a new one. (And that's not unique to the HoB....I'm the same way in the HTPC world....Useless reports waste everyone's time and will NEVER lead to a successful fix....only teeth pulling to get the info required to help which I'm not going to do). Basically what I'm looking for is how do we train users to become productive HoB users. Even if it's pointing them to established information about things like moto-fastboot, adb, installing drivers, common problems, etc. I want to be able to provide n00bs with the resources to become proficient enough to become HoB users.

You know, it would only be right if all of us here took one aspect of the HoB and created a Vid for it and you just compile them since we all benefitted from it, but not everyone has that ability. Just a thought. So there's information out that we may see JB loving (I.E. leaks) within 6 or 7 weeks on Bionic. I want to make sure the House is in order for our new guest to arrive. We have a few weeks of preparation time. Here's my goal....I want people to be able to use the HoB successfully to play with the leaks. BUT, I don't want to have to spend every waking moment of my life supporting it. So I'm looking for ideas/feedback/etc that will make the HoB easier for new users to adopt without causing me a massive headache in support. I'm not really willing to do videos as I don't have the time or patience for it, but, if someone wants to volunteer to create and post some video tutorials for the most common things a user needs to know that'd be helpful. I want to write some step by step tutorials for the functionality, as well, so I'll work on that over the next few weeks. The idea is to take so called n00bs and give them the knowledge to be able to safely use the HoB without inundating me with nonstop support nightmares. Any ideas that will make that easier on me and and the community will be welcome. I can't promise I'll implement every idea but I'm certainly open to suggestions and welcome community input and help on this stuff. My reason for the big warnings right now is simply to save myself from the myriad of pm's I get when leaks are in full force. I want people to be able to safely enjoy them, but, we need users to get to a certain level of knowledge to become self sufficient on this stuff. Thanks for any ideas you may have!

O) download the leak
O) Add the version to the end of the file name.
O) Create a 248 directory in you HoB install directory
O) drop the update in the 248 directory
O) Connect your phone to usb
O) Run the HouseOfBionic.bat
That's it. The HoB script will detect the update and prompt you to add support for it. Follow the on screen directions and when the HoB menu comes up, there'll be a new option for your update.
Note: When I say add the version to the filename I'm talking about the naming convention I use... So at the end of the Blur_Version zip file you'd add (68248) before the zip extension. Very simple.

I guess my first thought would be if you could include FAQ options in each section, so before I hit 'y' or 'n' to perform the step, maybe I could hit 'q' and it would bring up the FAQ related to that step. It would be like that last feelgood step before someone actually takes the action. Another option could be to add the FAQ to the HoB with each update (to the HoB, not the FAQ) and it would always be there for people to see. So in the first menu you could have item 'q) Read the FAQ'.
You mentioned wanting to share the knowledge about what it means to root, install a leak, etc. Have you thought about a brief description when someone enters that part of the tool? For example if I select the menu option to root, don't just bring up the screen that basically says "let's do this", but has a short description like, "Rooting your phone will give you access to system files that if modified may prevent your phone from booting and/or void your warranty. Are you sure you want to do this? (y/n/q)". The FAQ option could bring up a more detailed description. It's also that one last pause for someone that isn't sure to read more information. The rest of us will just hit 'y' and jump in head first without reading!
I'm sure you've had many of the same ideas. I don't want to suggest more work for you as you've developed a great tool that I truly appreciate for the Bionic.

I did think about how to integrate help directly into the script, but, I never could come up with a useful way to help those that need it but not annoy those who don't. I think I have a good idea now on how to go about it. It'd require a fairly lengthy rewrite on my part, but, I think in the end it'd be worth it. I had included the FAQ and OP as html files as sort of a step in that direction. However, I have a better idea now. Something similar to what you're suggesting only better. Thanks for the ideas!

That was the idea. I want people to be knowledeable so they know what's going on under the covers. This helps them not panic when something goes wrong. I've found that panicking people are the ones that most annoy me cause they're not thinking clearly when they post for help. They leave stuff out that they've done, don't fully describe the problem (if at all), etc. But in the end, when they do go to use the tool, I want it to be as easy as I can possibly make it. I think I've gotten to that point with the current script. I mean, seriously, if people can't figure out how to download a file, create a new directory, add a version number to the file, and copying it into the new directory, well, perhaps they really shouldn't be installing a leak. That's not a dis on anyone....it's just that there has to be a certain level of skill required before playing with leaks is considered "safe". I use that word VERY loosely because any time you're not on the OTA it's not ever SAFE. But, being able to get back to the OTA or fix a problem if something goes wrong...that's the level of experience I want my users to have.

Idea here - upfront ask if assisted operation is wanted - If so, at each prompt have a script open the link to the video in the default browser for that portion, if not it just continues on. This will keep your part to a minimum, allow those who don't want it to skip it, but provide useful info for those that do. This still requires someone to put together the vid pieces, but I still think the rest of us should try to put that together.@csantarcangelo

I am a big fan of instructional videos. I have learned a lot from people like droidmodd3rx & zedomax on YouTube when I was first learning to corrupt my phones.
