Great....another one that's going to be pm'ing me about a black screen and vibrations. Read the OP. You MUST install webtop support BEFORE doing this.

hey, you have the warning about the black screen/vibration problem, but i thought it was in reference to the RSD file rather than webtop. just a suggestion to make it more clear that it does in fact pertain to the webtop

Hey i had some problems at first switching over to 246 over this.. I kept switching usb ports and after a while it finally worked but i noticed that in the flashing process that it said one or two things failed. But it still flashed. I think it had to do with md5..anyway now since I've been trying to flash some roms I can never get gapps to flash correctly and and some other problems. Any ideas?

The thing is that everyone wants the most out of their phone like their PC. The problem is that you can do a clean install of your PC OS. WinXP is WinXP on a dell or a HP.

Android is another beast. We have to deal with Manufacturer crap then carrier stuff on top of that. That's why the development community is hard at work! We just happen to have a phone that doesn't lend itself to mods easily. We knew that when we bought it and (hopefully) we understood that we may NEVER get a purely stock ROM or custom kernels.

Sam has given us a tool that allows us to quickly and easily switch between updates without losing data. If you don't know what FXZ or fastboot is, or if you don't know what RSD is or how to install drivers for your phone... then DON"T mess with it. And if you DO and screw it up, be humble when asking for help. We all learn from our mistakes (I had a MyTouch that stayed bricked for a month while I searched for the answers to what I did wrong back in the day)

And the key is not to ask Sam for help, ask the community and document exactly what you did. But if you've documented all you've done... you'll see your mistake and how to fix it.

probably because the md5 failed which means the file you flashed is not exactly the 6.7.246 and something was probably corrupt. I would reflash 6.7.246 with the full fxz and wipe all your data.

I'm not against giving support to those that truly need it. I really don't mind helping people who've attempted to help themselves and just need some assistance. Maybe it didn't go according to plan, but, they've read everything, tried the suggestions in the faq, and documented exactly what they've done and what the result was. I'm going to help that person. The ones I don't want to help are the ones who ignored the OP and downloaded it anyway, half installed it, ran it, ____ed up their phone, are now panicking cause they have no idea what they're doing, and expect me to give them step by step directions when they give me "I ran it. didn't work. How do I fix it" as the ONLY info they give me. That's who I really DON'T want to help. So, I'm not against true support....I'm happy to help. But I'm not happy to hand hold people who are too ____ing lazy to be bothered to take 5 minutes to read anything before jumping in.

I ran it, and it ... worked.

Updated a (previously rooted by former owner) Bionic to 246 using Linux installer. Worked like a charm.

The only thing I noted during the process was this message:

sending 'mbmloader' (41 KB)... OKAY [ 0.011s]
writing 'mbmloader'... INFOCommand restricted
FAILED (remote: )

Update continued on regardless, and phone is so far working perfectly. Only references I found were in

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

on XDA-developers, and it mentions perhaps an incorrect file name. But the shell script & directory filename match, so that's not it.

Thanks for an awesome site, utiltity and good instructions!

That's odd about the command issue. Not sure what that's all about. But I'm glad it seems to be working for you. Very strange.

I suppose it could be related to the old GB, semi-rooted content of the phone. It still had Superuser.apk on it, and it didn't behave normally (contacts didn't sync right, dialer & text msging would pull up wrong name and/or number, etc).

Again, thx for the efforts you've put in here. A few hours reading, a half hour running scripts, and phone is back in working order. Glad to be part of the community.

Is anyone else having issues with battery life on .246? When I was on .247, I was averaging 3% battery use per hour while at work. After downgrading I now use approx 8%/hr. I did clear cache. after poor batt life, I did a reinstall w/o change. Still not getting better performance, I FXZed with keeping data with automatic cache wipe.

Does anyone have any suggestions or comments as to why battery life is so poor?

Those kinds of problems need an FDR to fix.
