I appreciate that. But I have left people hanging who PM me stupid questions. I just delete them. If someone is TRULY stuck I'm going to help them, yes. It's in my nature. But if it's cause they didn't read the faq or follow directions, ____ em. I haven't the time or patience to keep repeating the same info over and over again when it's readily available to anyone who has a 5th grade reading level. The unique cases I will handle one on one. The "I didn't bother reading and now I'm screwed" cases I have less and less sympathy for as each day goes on.
Man, now I feel guilty for PMing you my dumb questions BEFORE I used it so I didn't do it wrong

Well, it's why I put a lot of time into the FAQ and HoB OP. And all the user interface improvements I spent hours on. The point was to NOT have to have people PM me with "ok, I want to do this...now, walk me through how." You'd be amazed at the PM's I get. From basic "how do I install this" to "I installed it....now what?" to "I used it...didn't work. help". I mean, I don't think it can be any easier than it is at this point. Nor do I intend it to ever become easier. If people can't read the FAQ, the OP, and follow the in program instructions, well, too bad. Don't be using it. I know that sounds pretty harsh but the reality is playing with leaks is dangerous. Using these methods on your phone entails a level of risk that is masked by "how easy it is". When I get basic questions that are answered 100 times already, that's when you start to see me get pissed off and short tempered with people. And it's not like I don't warn constantly that it's how I'll respond to that type of $#!7. Short version....read everything before doing.

It's kind of funny, because I was honestly going to just do the switch from 232 to 246 manually and either restore data afterward or modify the FXZ to keep it from erasing my data partition. It would have been a fairly easy edit to the XML file inside to do it, and a single run through RSD. But I wanted to try out the HoB after hearing about it for so long. Curiosity got the best of me!! Then again, so did caution. Being utterly unfamiliar with it made me far more cautious than doing the upgrade would have by hand
Therein lies the difference though. You know how to do it manually. Most users don't.

Some of us are just special I guess. There wasn't even an FXZ option back when I had a Nexus One. Had to do it the hard way then, of course the bootloader wasn't locked but we did have to do everything manually with fastboot. Damn I miss that phone... too bad I ran it over with a frontend loader!Therein lies the difference though. You know how to do it manually. Most users don't.

I tell people they should look through the house and see what it's doing so they know the process. But too many aren't interested. They just want the quick fix to get "the latest" and see the house as a shortcut to getting what they want with no effort. Matt won't even use the automation I wrote for boot img creation in his tool because he expects people to know how to do it manually. And those that don't will just wait for someone to post up a zip containing the update, boot img, and crc. That's going to be the model for HoB jb support going forward. I won't be involved in providing leak installers for HoB support. The community will be doing that. Those that I trust to put out the zip files will get a special tool that will create a zip distribution. I'm going that route vs installers for several reasons. One of the big ones is the linux and mac people will be able to use the same update zips as the Windows people. Everyone will be on equal footing.

I just wanted to thank you for your effort AND humor. I was on a 232 leak forever and didn't want to lose data so when I ran across HoB i figured "WTH? I'll give it a try." and it worked lilke a charm! Your info and FAQ answers pretty much everything one would need to know and the other members on here have answered the other little bits...I guess what I'm saying to anyone reading this is READ before you try!
One thing that I did run into and finally saw the answer after I had ran through it was in reqgards to WIN7 and security settings. I HATE Win7 and at work I have no option to turn the UAC off. I downloaded everything and had to use run as admin to extract and install...But DO NOT run the .bat as admin or you will get errors. (or don't do this at work LOL)
Again, THANKS!

In the FAQ you state:
Q: What version of android do I need to be on to upgrade to the 246 OTA?
A: Any. Use the 246 FXZ.
Q: What version of android do I need to be on to upgrade to the 246 OTA?
A: 5.9.905
Am i OK to use this with my current phone specs?
Thanks.

If you can't figure the answer to that question in the OP or FAQ then you should stop while you are ahead and stay where you are leaving the HOB alone. Otherwise read, and read again, until you have answered your own question and then, and only then, proceed while following the directions with just as much attention to detail and you will be fine.I understand that you have said not to ask "newbie" questions, but i read the FAQ multiple times and still do not understand if I am ok to use this to upgrade to .246. I am currently rooted on system build 5.5.1, system version 5.5.886.

Seems pretty clear in what you quoted -- you can use the FXZ option, but not the OTA option. The reason is that the OTA expects version 905, which for some strange reason you are not on. The FXZ however just flashes over the whole thing.
