If I may be allowed one stupid question...

First of all, thanks a lot for putting all of this together, and for continuing to support everyone, even though no one deserves it

Funny thing (OK, maybe not, but whatever), I just used HoB (8.4) to update my Bionic from 902 to 905 two days ago (it worked perfectly, and I feel like I owe you something. Point me to the donate button), and was just about to go update it to 246 right now (wanted to give it a day or so to see how it behaves at 905), but I decided to check your OP again, just in case anything had changed in the meantime, and now I see that you released 9.

my stupid question --> is there any critical reason I should use 9.2, or can I just proceed with 8.4 and be just fine?

9.2....it's almost completely rewritten in some parts.

Hey Sam.

Thanks for sticking with this and figuring out the source of the Black Screen + Buzz. It was driving me nuts, I knew I had done everything right - I read the FAQ over and over. I had been up for almost 22 hours at the point where I finally figured it out... I wasn't going to be able to sleep until my Bionic was up and running ICS.

Hey Sami. I used HoB 9 to install the FXZ 246, because I couldn't get the OTA to work.

Install appeared to go as expected. Upon final reboot - I heard the Droid start up sound, but I have no image on my screen.

The buttons presses appear to be registering, the soft buttons vibrate when pressed, the power button turns the back light off and on(no image appears on screen though). Also the internal and external memory is accessible when plugged in via USB.

Any thoughts?

FIXED:
I had to use RSD Lite v5.6 with the FXZ 246 from here -

It's working fine now.

The only differences in the FXZ's is the 1.3GB vendor.img - why is this left out of yours?

BTW, I was coming from 905, no ICS leaks, only MotoFail root.

I am going to try your method later so I can get on the HoB train. Thanks!

The fix is simple though. For those with the black screen of death issue, follow these directions:

For those with the black screen of death issue AND/OR those coming from 905 you must do the following:

o) Install the WEBTOP installer from the OP
o) Reboot to AP Fastboot mode manually (Power + vol down)
o) On the utility menu, select Repair WEBTOP
o) When that completes, go to the main menu and select 246 FXZ options
o) KEEP FXZ

Done. All fixed.

All of that is outdated now. Install the WEBTOP installer, load up 9.2, and use the FXZ KEEP DATA option. Good to go.

OK, quick question as I have been away for awhile. I am currently running the .246 leak and am rooted, all via the HoB. Should I 246fxz or am I already back on the future OTA path and would not benefit from the 246fxz?

Sorry if this was already asked!

It's in the faq. 246 leak is 246. If you got your file from somewhere else you can compare the md5 of one you flashed with the md5 written in house of bionic op.Also. Dang. Thanks for answering my question earlier, Samuri. Especially since it is first thing now in the "you really should read this section."I'm just going to start reading that every day whether I have a question or not that day :(

omg, the leaked .246 is identical to the official ota. it has been verified mathematically by md5 hash codes. The FXZ is identical to the OTA but in a format used by RSD to flash on the phone through APfastboot, unlike the OTA with is applied in recovery, and can only be applied over .905.
There is absolutely NO NEED AT ALL FXZ IF YOU ARE ALREADY ON THE .246 version of ICS.

this will not be answered by Sam as he has already answered this question thousands of times, and put it in his FAQ thread, he has also stated that he will no longer be answering this question through any form of communication

I was just looking around to see it I could quote the answer from Sam, but wasn't seeing. Also it seems like when I use HoB it checks the md5 for you( if you want it too).Seems there was a question about the term FXZ.

I appreciate all of your effort Samuri. I have recovered my bricked Bionic in ICS by simply following your instructions. Thanks for everything!

A fxz is just the file extension. Similar to the older sbf, both terms are used in slang to describe the process of flashing that particular files extension. Hope that answers what you want

Edit: hob checks the md5 to verify the update did not get corrupted in the transfer to the sd card, a corrupted transfer would brick your phone during the process of using hob.

just gotta say that the hob is fantastic. it got me from .905 to.247, from .247 back to .246, and rooted for the first time.

then tonight while messing with my phone i somehow managed to get it in a bootloop. guess what! hob saved my arse. 9.2 got it up and working again without any loss of data. i'm not a noob, but far from an expert.....this was not hard to do following the prompts.

thanks samurihl!!

Please note the Linux/Mac version is completely untested. It should work but may contain bugs. Please let me know if you run into problems and I'll let you know if it's a problem that I need to fix or not. :)

I know I already spent my free stupid question.....so, I'd be willing to pay for this second one...

Since I was going to do the ICS update this time with 9.2 instead of with 8.4 which I used to do 905 (again, thank you very much :) ), I wrapped everything in the install folder in a zip (for safe keeping elsewhere), and deleted it.

So, I downloaded all of the items needed, according to the OP.

Then, when I was going through the install steps in the OP, when I got to the step called
"o) Install the SamuriHL_HouseOfBionic_(xxx).exe for the updates you want support for"

...I noticed that, in the folder of all of the files that I had just downloaded, I did not have a file named
SamuriHL_HouseOfBionic_(xxx).exe

So, do I just use the file that I downloaded previously (when I updated to 905)? .....the one named
SamuriHL_HouseOfBionic_(246).exe

Oh, one other note for Linux and Mac users. WEBTOP can NOT be flashed on a 32 bit install. If this represents you, you're going to have to find another solution to flash webtop.

SMH.....with the 246 FXZ.....you think you somehow need the 246 update that I've pulled off hosting cause it's no longer needed? You only get those if there are any updates available. Which, there aren't.

OK....I know I sound completely airheaded when I say this, but.....what do you mean that it's no longer needed?
I thought 6.7.246 was the update to ICS. If so, and since I'm not getting it automatically via OTA, I do need it....which is the whole reason I'm using HoB.

I assume I completely missed something, and sound like an idiot.
Sorry about that, and thanks for your kindness.
