OK.... close that window then switch to a different USB mode.... another similar window should come up..... if you just recently updated drivers, cycling thru the USB modes ensures that the drivers are fully installed...

Tried, same as before.
BTW, a few days back I was able to root using the 1.82, same settings on the PC and everything. Then I used the option 1 to go back to the 211 and now its just stuck at waiting for device.

Try this....with your phone plugged in .... in the utility folder, move your mouse to a empty spot, hold shift then right click... choose open command window here..... once the command window opens type this ..... adb devices ... see what comes up....

It says

List of adb devices attached
BLANK LINE

Although under My Computer, I can see Razr with 2 folders, Internal and SD Card

Seems like your drivers need updated ..... because it sees it as mass storage but not as an adb device....

I'm only chiming in to annoy hillbilly while he tapadrives, but would add that since root is at operating level, while flashing is at fastboot level, they're not really the same. Assuming you've tried s different USB cable and USB port, and that you're directly plugged into the port (rather than a hub), your next option is to toggle the storage mode so the phone will reconnect with the computer. If you have a pulldown to change the type, use that, or access it through system settings-storage. I would check adb devices after each change until you see your device that way.

Okay, I got my phone back to .211 with the Utility. I see everyone talking about "Rooting." I'm curious, before I jump to JB, what is the benefit of rooting the phone??

Rooting allows you to customize your phone in ways that are not possible otherwise... :) for example, custom recovery, custom ROMs, allows you to view, and modify system files to allow your device to perform in any way you want (within the limits of your device) ...

I recommend anyone root their device... you may not need or use it right away.... but you may want to sometime down the road..... :)

Hope that makes sense to you :)

Installed leak 4.1.2 and didn't protect root. Having major flashing withdrawal's. I also recommend rooting your device.

You're very welcome... :)

Piece of advice tho... if you plan on rooting and then do the JB update.... please for your own good, read read read the threads concerning the update.... you can also choose to keep ICS and dual boot both ICS or JB.... if you are even a little unsure about something, read the thread(s) and then ask questions in the help thread before doing it....

Hello, I have a quick queston. Im about to run option #1 on Matt's Utility 1.82 and I was wondering if I needed to get the correct drivers from someplace or do they automatically install once I plug in my phone to my compluter? it's saying downloading drivers so I think I have the correct drivers. Im trying to completely restore to stock to update to JB once its pushed to me. Also do I need to uninstall SS 3.05 and delete the ROM I have on slot 1?

Thanks

Have you ever used this tool before?? Then you would have the drivers. If not I believe they are in a folder in the zip. Also you do not need to uninstall Safestrap

I think I have for the root. I can't remember. If I had it was before I re-installed my operating system. So I imagine I lost all those drivers. All the drivers from the phone are installed along with motocast. Should I install the drivers anyway from the folder?

I just give it a try. If it starts working you are all set. If the drivers are the issue ADB will have trouble finding your phone and you will not be able to start
