So, what's everybody's favorite recovery these days? I used to use CWM in my OG Droid days, but that was a long time ago. LOL

My favorite recovery is a tall, cold beer myself (or two or three or more)!

I prefer TWRP myself and it seems more stable on the KK ROM than CWM. CWM, after the KK update, didn't always work and sometimes required to be reflashed for some reason to make it work. I've never had an issue with TWRP once it was updated for the KK kernel.

There's a working TWRP for XT926 on KK now?

Isn't there an s-off for that thing?

There may be. Tbh I haven't checked into it. He just wanted root for specific apps. I don't think he is knowledgeable enough to start flashing things yet lol.

I just used towel root on my brothers s4 on cspire. Wish I'd been able to use it on my m8 lol

Isn't there an s-off for that thing?

ummm, possibly :)

If one only wants root, weaksauce is an apk that roots on reboot. Takes a minute for it to do it, but it's all good. But if you go that far, May as well go all the way.....

Weaksauce is for the m8. We were talking about the s4.

Oh, you mentioned you wished you could use it on the M8, so....I assumed. That and Sam mentioned s-off, which furthered my thought of the M8. Sent from my S-Offed One M8

I used this method after RSD lite to a 4.4.2 official VZW release and everything has worked perfectly. The only thing wrong is that i cannot make any recovery app (CMW or TWRP) to load up in recovery. When i scroll to recovery on the bootloader screen. The (Warning, Bootloader Unlocked) screen shows up and will not continue on. If i let it sit it reboots and does a normal boot so the phone is not bricked. Any advice on how to fix this so i can flash CM 11. I am in fact using the Droid Razr M (xt907). also i RSD'd with my friends pc. I have a Mac and Android SDK developer tools installed. For everything else, i downloaded the .apk files to my phone directly. I also have ROM manager from the play store downloaded which shows that CMW and TWRP are both flashed onto my phone.

I used flashify from the play store and CWM recovery from Dhacker29 to flash my two Maxx HD's.  Worked like a charm. Make sure you have the correct recovery image for your phone. Use the link on the OP to get Dhacker29's CWM6049-RAZR-HD_M-KITKAT.img. You must have root access on the phone for flashify to work.  But you can flash the recovery with out hooking to a computer.

I did, only about 15 times. I am rooted and now unlocked. Thank you.

If we wanted to freeze the updater, what file would that be now? I looked and didn't see it. Or does it not matter with the unlocked bootloader?

Sam correct me if I am wrong.  Being unlocked the only thing an update could do would be to loose root.  Rooting on an unlocked phone should be as easy as flashing superuser again;  I know that has been posted.

This is my first post here and I want to say thank you for this thread. I've had this phone for quite a while and just rooted, unlocked and now (thanks to this post) running twrp recovery. My phone won't connect to my pc anymore for some unknown reason so was looking for a way to flash twrp directly from the phone. I tried Rashr with no luck, but Flashify worked like a charm. Running stock Kit-Kat. Looking forward to flashing CM. Thanks everyone!

This Is correct. If you're unlocked don't worry about updates. You can always downgrade with my universal script if moto pisses you off. Lol. Everyone should learn how to root on unlocked. I created an unlocked root script that flashes recovery (twrp or cwm) and sideloads supersu. That is one way. Or you can manually flash recovery with fastboot and then flash supersu zip in recovery. Because you won't have root you can't install recovery with flashify or any other fun method if you take an update and need to re root. Once we get everyone unlocked and the next update comes out we'll go through all this with everyone as a learning exercise.
