So, I have an XT925 on stock ICS. Its untouched as far as modding is concerned. system version is 7.611101001.XT925.vodafone.en.fr
I've been fiddling through forums and I've the basic idea about it. The general process that follows is.

1.) Unlock the bootloader.

2.) Root.

3.) Flash recovery.

4.) Flash ROM.

However, apart from the Bootloader unlock from Moto, nothing in the forums appear certain or updated. Most of the stuff is about XT926 and I'm not sure if its applicable for XT925 too.

So, can someone point me the directions. Links to threads or posts that have most recent info/tools.

What I can't find..

How to Root.
Recovery.Should I chose CWM or TWRP.? Does the choice of recovery affects which ROM I can flash.?
Compatible ROMs. I know CM11 is there and Slimkat too. But apart from those what are other ROMs available for XT925.?What about XT926 ROMs, can they be made to work for XT925.?

Sorry, if its been answered already but couldn't find it.

Since it's a 925, you can unlock through Motorola.  Once you unlock the the bootloader, find a compatible aftermarket recovery and flash it via fastboot.  Once the recovery is flashed, you can flash a SuperUser zip through recovery to gain root.  I'm not going to fully elaborate on the details, as I believe a person should research and learn themselves.  However, this should get you started in the right direction.  After reading up, if you have any questions, let us know.  As for ROMs, I love Slim, but you should take a look around on XDA for a broader selection of ROMs.

Thanks. Much appreciated.

Though the part about 'finding the appropriate aftermarket recovery'. Thats where I'm stuck.I know that both CWM and TWRP are available for this phone. however can't decide which one to chose and why. The Slim forum says I need the recovery compatible with ROM.But it doesn't say which one.

I'll try digging more on this.

As easy as it is to switch, pick one and if you don't like it or it doesn't flow with the Rom of choice then switch. Twrp is much more user friendly. Cwm is very light weight. A 30 second flash is all it takes :) Sent from my S-Offed One M8

I prefer TWRP, the interface is far easier. The latest TWRP will work fine with all of the latest ROMs. I can't open up the link at work, but DHacker should have the latest recovery in his Andoid Hosting folder, just search for it.

edit: ninja'd ;)
