Universal preserves data, so it Doesn't wipe or partition data?

The full script is NOT the universal? So I don't need to run the script generator?

FULL == Indentical to the VRZ* script except for the getvar lines removed so it'll actually flash (IOW, you won't have much luck flashing the VRZ* script without editing it anyway)
KEEP DATA == Removes the erase user data line from the FULL script
UNIVERSAL == Removes erase user data, gpt, and tz lines

Thank you so much! FYI, this DOES work with an Amazon Basics USB 2.0 cable as well as the OEM cable.

Thank you for posting this SamuriHL, my wife's phone became soft bricked in my futile attempts to try various root methods (she had just updated to Kitkat, and I was like NOoooooooooo! (because she hadn't rooted yet, but needed to), however, I was able to restore it back to Kitkat using your method in your OP. Thank you so much for helping me unbreak her phone (even if it's without root, at least it works). :-D

You could use the full script and it'll wipe the data partition for you.

This worked.
Had trouble connecting with fastboot after. USB2 and reinstalled moto drivers but no luck.
Flashed new CWM with House of Moto and now a good.
Make a backup. Haven't tried restoring yet.

this worked great!
thanks
now I'll just have to wait like everyone else with a locked bootloader for root access.

Just want to say thanks to the OP and all involved. I was previously rooted and the update kept failing. I used this method and now I'm up and running. No root, but that's fine. I'm chaining devices in Sept. anyway. Thanks again!

This worked great for me. Running KK now. Great Battery life.
I read everywhere there is no way to downgrade back to older firmware.
is there anyway to re-write some of the FXZ files and fool the phone to downgrade so a locked user can unlock the bootloader.
or is it as complicated as finding a root exploit?

SamuriHL,
I just bought a new Razr M not activated still on ICS.
Do you think I can activate the phone, root it and unlock the bootloader b4 a OTA update takes over the activation process?
hopefully I'll have the choice to update later/never, while getting my accounts set-up so I root and then unlock and install a custom recovery

Yea, I'd certainly try it. Don't go past 9.16 until you unlock!

Since this update, I've been having issues with random reboots/shut downs. I tried entering the recovery to clear cache, but vol up + vol down does not open up the recovery prompt as it should. Locked, unrooted device.

The vendor just emailed me saying my new phone is Ver 4.1.2: can that bootloader be unlocked?

My car is a Subaru....does it have 4 doors? LMAO. There have been 4 versions of 4.1.2 so that is a meaningless version number.
