Alright unlocked beotches, you'll notice the OP is updated with new root instructions.  I've updated my unlocked root program with all the latest toys so you can install CWM and sideload SuperSU once you complete the OTA.  Enjoy.

Haha, no it has not been.  On a good note, though, it has brought a lot of traffic into the site. ;)

Any chance of a locked root anytime soon? I didn't think I'd miss root so much... :(

Not likely..... :( as root for locked devices is getting exponentially harder to achieve .....

I really hope we can avoid these kinds of posts.  I mean, if people haven't learned their lesson on taking OTA's and root by now, there's no hope.  The answer is no, and there may never be, unless you guys get as lucky as you did with 9.30.1 root.  Meaning, IF, by some miracle, another 4.4.2 device gets rooted, it MAY work on this build.  But I wouldn't count on it.

I agree that I hope to not see a ton of these posts, but I saw no answers after Googling around a lot so I figured I'd ask. Now I know the answer, and people searching can find it as well. I figured it was unlikely, and I knew it may very well be a permenant unroot when I went into it.

Your tool enabled me to do the OTA update, so thank you for your awesome work on this site.

It's why I put warnings all over the op. No one can claim to take the ota using these instructions and not knowing that they're going to lose root. Given that the phone is 18 months old and this update has been out less than a week, the idea of getting a root exploit is laughable. The s5 has been out for weeks, has a 12 grand bounty, and is still unrooted. Do people get this? 12 grand unclaimed because root hasn't been found. No one is going to bother looking for an exploit for these phones. The only way it'll ever happen is if someone releases an exploit for something like the s5 that just happens to work on these phones. Of course I'm hoping to change this for those that have NOT already taken the ota once the FXZ comes out. At this time it remains a working theory and those who took the ota already need not apply.

Folowed the instructions.

I deleted my unzipped folder

redownloaded the FSZ and went through the whole process again.

Any ideas?

Make sure you're using a USB 2 port, not USB 3, make sure the Moto USB drivers are up to date (google for them), make sure you're using the original OEM cable that came with the phone (yes, it matters).

Yup, USB 2.0

I'll double check the drivers. But pretty sure I'm up to date, and yes, original cord.

DUH! using RSD lite 5.7. Let me update that and see if it helps. Smack!

Also, Win 8.1
