So I found a temporary "fix" for the mms issue. I don't know how important that is to other people, but I was really missing it. I also don't know how prevalent the issue is, but anyway...
So I stole the messaging apk from mattlgroff's old The Arctic 215 rom, which I think is just the stock ICS messaging app, and you can download the apk at the link i've provided. I installed it and I could send and receive mms right away, but the pictures were a bit pixelated. I had to clear cache to fix the pixelation.
Full instructions:
1. Using root explorer, go to system/app and rename mms.apk to mms.bak
2. Put apk file (from link above) onto sd card.
3. boot to safestrap and clear cache and dalvik
4. reboot
5. install apk from sd card (it might prompt you to replace system file)
6. go to settings/manage apps/all/messaging and clear the app cache (also make sure the messaging version is 4.04)
7. Hope it works!
I have no idea how many steps above are actually necessary, but that's what I did and it worked for me. The only difference between the ICS and JB messaging apps are some minor UI tweaks (as far as I can tell).
Let me know if this helped at all!
Edit: Added one more step.

What does this mean? You won't be developing this rom much longer?

No flash. Photos save to internal SD w/ no option to change. You can move them to ext-SD with root explorer or something similar .

Sent from my XT912Maxx using Tapatalk²

What exactly is wrong with the camera on this ROM? can't snap any photo's?

Is there anything that we can do to help you Hicks as a community? I mean, IMO this is the best ROM for JellyBean. I'd hate to see the awesome support that you've given so far stop
Amen!

I second this. It would be a major disappointment. Its depressing just thinking about it.

Unfortunately there's nothing that can change it. There have just been some issues I have with certain things in the dev aspect of this device that made the decision. I will still be here, I will still help out and everything, but yes after this Friday there will be no more development from me. I'll elaborate more sometime in the near future.

That phone is lucky to have you I know I'd trade my Maxx for an S3, or a GNex if it didn't have so many problems on Verizon.

Thank you so much! Read the reply below because it's also a partial reply to you.
Flash Friday... may you rest in peace.
I'm still going back and forth on it. Quite a few people develop on this phone without actually having it themselves. I'm trying really hard to find out if I'll have the time to do that or not. Stay tuned...
