Holy Crapballs. You are on the original version of Gingerbread. Where you been man?? I gotta look around and make sure I give you the right Utility. That will take you back to stock GB and then you will have to take the OTA updates, to get up to 4.04 ICS then when official JB comes out in the next few weeks you should be able to take that OTA. Hang loose. **off to look**

My droid razr gets all the way to the install. Then I hit the volume buttons to see what its doing and at the very end it says, "assert failed: motorola.motoflash("/tmp/bp.img")
E:Error in /cache/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted

Do you know of a fix for this?

Should look like a browser window in a way with a yellow gear in it.

Hmm you may need to sideload the ICS update. Almost sounds like a corrupt OTA. You say you were never rooted right?

Have you performed a factory reset yet?? That may be all you need since you never rooted. Do a factory reset then after you set it up go to software update and see if you can pull the updates. A factory reset may help the error you are getting but I'm not sure you still need to fastboot back to stock if you factory reset because you are still on stock.

Yes i have a couple of times. It just the same thing. I was trying to fastboot back to stock because if the software has a flaw in it then this should overright the flaw, shouldn't it?

Just to add @memnok I'm not trying to step on your toes. He has to have all original apps in system etc, an them up to date. A status 7 could kick from a app not being updated. Also get him to run the ICS fxz file and go from there.

Also if you are still getting status 7 boot into Recovery and wipe data then try running the utility again.

To boot into Recovery: From power off state hold both volumes and power. When bootloader comes up vol down to highlight recovery and volume up to select. When the dead android appears hit both volume buttons to bring up menu.
