Anyone have trouble getting a GPS lock?

For anyone having trouble with GPS not locking onto your location, I have a suggestion that may help. Before trying arctic HD, I was running flick 1.3.1 by bytecode. He made tweaks to the gps.conf file found in system/etc. I made a copy of that file using root explorer, the went into that folder on Arctic (as well as on bionx nx) and pasted into system/etc, after mounting rw. When it notifies the file exists already and asks if you want to overwrite, touch yes. Then just check permissions are still correct rw/r/r. Then mount ro, and back out of root explorer. Then boot into safe strap recovery, wipe cache and dalvik and reboot. Then just check that the new configuration is still in place, and you should be locking in more quickly and accurately. Worked for me anyway. Already pm'd bytecode and got his permission to post the suggestion in using his configuration tweaks for others to try on this rom. Usual disclaimers apply, and all that stuff. Hope this helps everyone! Credit for gps.conf tweaks to bytecode.

I merely came up with the idea to try overwriting the file with the one from flick. Credit for the gps.conf file mod goes to bytecode, since its from his rom. Just trying to give credit where it's due :-). Glad the overwrite helped though. I think flick was his first attempt at creating a rom, and it was a great job! Currently trying bionx nx, and used the overwrite on that rom as well.

I had to zip the file to attach here. Download the file and unzip with root explorer. Then copy and paste as in previous post. Just make a backup of your current setup first, before using. Once extracted, the file size is 1019 bytes

I haven't seen any problems with gps at this point, but haven't used it much. Will be traveling to unknown parts, for me any way, so I downloaded just to make sure it would be accurate when I travel.

WOW. Before I downloaded I looked to see where the original gps would locate me. It had me in the yard, maybe 30 yards from where I actually was located. The downloaded gps has me located about 3 yards from where I am actually sitting. That's what I call AMAZING! Thanks to bytecode for writing and Stew for sharing it.

So I tried this GPS fix since the GPS issue was very apparent yesterday when I was using Navigation. To fully test the GPS, I turned off the Google location services and the VZW location services so it would not use my WiFi or Verizon services to locate me. I was expecting to see it lock right away but even after using this fix, it had me located over a block away from my house. It took over a minute to show I was at the right location. So I wiped cache and Delvik cache again and the 2nd time, it put my at my neighbors house. It took about 2 minutes to move over to my house.

Next I turned the Google and VZW services back on and wiped cache and Delvik cache again. Again it showed my at my neighbors house behind me. It took about a minute to move over to my house and show the correct address. This time the little triangle keep moving around but continued to show my correct address even when the triangle was over my neighbors house and it bounced all around.

So at least for me, this does look like it works a little better but it is still not as good as stock. I am going to try something else and report back.

It is because of the way the rom was signed. They said they would fix it in the next update.

Did you set the permissions back to rw-r--r-- after overwriting? I noticed improvement when seeing my location on Google maps. The big improvement for me though, was using Google navigation to get turn by turn directions from point a to point b. Even on stock rom, would show searching for GPS forever before finally loading directions for me to use. On the flick rom, GPS locked immediately and id be on my way. Same after using the file on this rom. GPS finds directions to stops quickly to guide me where I need to go.

Yes I did, I just renamed the original gps.conf to gps.bak and confirmed the permissions were the same. I just confirmed that the original gps.conf file from this rom is the exact same file as it is in stock .215. I was going to try loading the stock file but since it is already the same there is no point. I will try copying the flick file in again just to make sure I didn't do something wrong.

Exact process I used and it worked perfectly. Maybe the second time will be the charm for you.

For anyone having GPS issues, here is a gps.conf file I found a while ago. Don't remember where I got it, but have used our on every rom I've been on. Gives GPS lock in about 5 seconds. You should install the free GPS status app and download the gps assist data 1st.
Here's the link to the file.
