I was reading some on this on xda and backed up my numbers, but I was wondering how often does this happen? Is this only on certain roms? Any info anybody can add would be great.

Its a random thing , very random. I would not worry about it. If you made a backup your good to go. Its 99% in flashing any AOSP ROMs.
