I can't seem to update my phone with the OTA. I download the update and it asks me to install it which I do, but when it reboots to do the update it goes for a little bit before failing with the android icon on its back. Do I need to unroot my phone before perform the update? If not, why can't I update my phone? I'm running 4.1.2 stock rooted rom with 98.72.16
Can't update to 98.71.165

You likely changed something in system. Perhaps freezing bloat?

I am also having issues with the latest OTA. At first, the update would download, attempt to install, but then fail. I think I had removed madden, and that stupid little golf game that comes with it which is probably why it was failing. So I tried using Matt's utility to flash back to stock. I tried "1 Flash Official Jellybean Firmware (Wipe Data)", which appears to have gotten me back to stock. But now when I try and download the OTA, I get "Info: An unexpected error has occurred. Please try again later." Anyone know of any way to manually download and install the new OTA? I downloaded Blur_Version.98.72.16.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip from another post on here, but wasn't sure if I can take that and flash it somehow? Or maybe copy it to a certain directory to make the phone think it downloaded the OTA and attempt to install it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,

Oddly enough, I just got the Motorola Device Software installed, and attempted to update it that way, and it came up and said:
There are no updates for your device at this time.
Current Version:
98.72.16.XT912.Verizon.en.US
I wonder if Verizon pulled the update??

I'm getting the "unexpected error...try again later" notice now, too. When trying previous attempts to install this, at least was able to download the file

Don't know what's going on with the OTA update (I keep getting unexpected error, too), but even with latest Moto Device Software installed, it never showed updates available...ota update only.

FXZ it then. If you use my FXZ Generator you can generate a KEEP DATA script that you can flash with RSD to upgrade to this version. You will have to re-root after, but, it'll keep your data and get you a fresh install of this version.

I spent a little time yesterday with Moto Tech Support. I asked them in several different ways "Did the update get pulled, or is there a problem with update server?" They would not confirm either of those questions, but said "Let's try selecting Later when it asks you to download. I think that will work for you." Surprise surprise, it worked downloading this morning. I am assuming that there was an issue on their side, and they were able to get it resolved. So this morning, I was able to download the update and use VooDoo to restore Root.
So to recap, I was getting a failure trying to install the original OTA (It would download, but would fail installing because I had uninstalled some of the verizon BloatWare). Here's what I did to get the OTA:
- I downloaded Matt's Razr Utility
- I installed the drivers in the Drivers[WINDOWS ONLY] folder (obviously I am using Windows)
- I used Matt's Utility option 1 (Though option 2 should work) to Flash Official Jellybean Firmware.
- I used Matt's Utility option 3 to gain root again using Razr Blade
- I downloaded Voodo's OTA RootKeeper
- Open up Voodoo, and "Protect Root".
- In Voodoo, I then did "Temp. un-root (keeps backup)"
- In my Case, I went to "System Settings -> About Phone -> System Updates" and then did "later" when it told me there was an update, but I think the servers have been fixed so you should be able to download now.
- After reboot, Open up VooDoo and "Restore Root"
One "Issue" that I ran into, was I had disabled Superuser before I called Moto Tech Support, so when I tried to run VooDoo RootKeeper to restore, it did nothing (literally, no error message, no nothing). So then I hit the "Google Play" button in VooDoo to I thought reinstall Superuser, but it installed ChainsDD Superuser so VooDoo Root Restore failed again. Matt's utility installs the ClockwordMod Superuser. You have to use the same Superuser app that you were using when you backed up Root through VooDoo. So I uninstalled ChainsDD's Superuser and installed Koush's (ClockworkMod) Superuser from the play store
and then ran the VooDoo Root Restore again and it was successful.
Not sure if the 4 days of headaches to update to the latest OTA was worth it yet, but so far, my 3g reception at the office does seem better (Though in the past it has been hit or miss, so hopefully it will stay strong and today was not just an exception since it's Friday and noone is in the office).
Hopefully that will help someone else out!

Even with going back to stock with Matt's utility, I still can't install the update.
