Hi guys, when I try to flash .215 I get this error:

Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/BackupAssistanceClient.apk", "8a82ea1d.....,"6fd47......")
E:Error in /tmp/sideoad/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

The /system/app/BackupAssistanceClient.apk file is there. I'm running .211. Rooted but I disable root with VoodooOTA. Any ideas how to get past this?

Are you stock .211? Compete Stock? Did you wipe data/ cache twice in stock recovery after you fastbooted?

Yes, I wiped data/cache then tried to apply the update again. This time got another assert failed error having to do with "/system/MOTD" or something like that. Decided to quit for the night and rebooted the phone. Ended up in the whole setup wizard again which then threw an error saying Backup Assistance Contacts had stopped working. Went to bed. Woke up and the phone wouldn't turn on or charge. Total brick. No idea what happened but took it to the Verizon store and they are sending me a new one.

Just an FYI. I flashed to .215 (main reason was to try and fix GPS issues, however that did not work). So I flashed back to .211 and now GPS locks on instantly, phone seems snappier, and 4g signal appears to be more reliable. Not sure if anyone else has tried this/experienced it, but I figured I would share.

What gps problems did you have on 215? Gps is critical for me.

Many people, including myself, have experienced gps lock-on issues since the update to ICS (Perhaps some had the issue before upgrading, but that was not my experience.) When I used stock recovery to upgrade to .215, I fastbooted .211 beforehand as was directed in the thread even though I was already stock and had never been rooted. When the upgrade was complete, my gps issue was solved. I've had instant lock-ons ever since. Based on my experience, I wouldn't worry about breaking your gps going to .215 and even if you were to do so, it seems a fastboot will solve the issue.

Fastboot to stock using 1.81 utility, then apply update.

I have one area here that I have no signal in now. I just went back to stock .211 OTA. Gonna see if it happens now. If I still have the issue I will go back to .215.

I have signal in the area that didn't on .215. Appears in my case the .211 radio is working better. I think I will stay on .211 until something else comes along.

There is a root method in the 1.81 utility that should be able to root .215 option 2 i think?

Phone or firmware/app issue?

I did this upgrade when it first came out.
I have been issue free since then (2 months?)

Now I get (not all the time), what appears to be static-like overscan lines at the bottom 1/10th of the screen. They are not there all the time, and are there for minutes when they are.

SInce the phone was new, is the phone going bad, is this this an issue reported with others? I have not installed any new system utilties (keyboard, etc) or changed screen background, nbott image, etc etc. That has all been fine for 2 months.

If it is something simple, rather than me unrooting, going back to full stock to see, I would rather fix the simple than go through all that.

Thanks

Have you dropped your phone? My friends did something similar to the whole screen when he dropped it.

The whole download, then reboot into stock recovery and flash it.

To get into stock recovery, power the phone off.
Press and hold the volume down and power button at the same time for about 9 seconds.
When the screen flickers, let go of those 2 buttons and quickly press and hold all 3 side buttons (power, vol+, vol-).
Now in the bootloader, use volume- button to select "Recovery" and press volume+ to select it.
When on the screen with the little android guy, press both volume buttons at the same time.
You're now in stock recovery.
Flash the update.
Reboot.
Profit
Hope that helps!
