Did you extract all the contents of the zip file? In the extracted folder, do you see adb.exe?

Yes - all contents were extracted, adb.exe is there. All files extracted succesfully. But I get that same error pasted above no matter how I do this. I've also tried the failsafe root option, both in the normal folder it was extracted to (subfolder) and in the main folder. I get that error no matter what I do. If my only other option is needing to do a factory restore I just won't root any more.

Thoughts?

Are you running the utility (ie the. BAT file) from the same folder as the adb.exe file? The two reasons for those errors are no ADB set up, or in a folder the program can't find. The .BAT file has to run in same folder as the adb.exe file. There's a third possibility, too. You could have an incomplete zip file - check MD5 against the download site/OP - terminal command for MD5 checksum is MD5 [path]/[filename].

In my copy, there are 22 files plus an additional 2 subfolders (failsafe files + moto drivers), total size 2.77 gb. Yours should be similar. The .bat file should be in the DroidRazrUtility folder along with all the other files. It needs to run from that folder or it won't find ADB. The following is a screenshot url for 1.7 extraction, but concept is same:

I have 25 files, the same 2 subfolders. Total size 2.58 GB. Could that be why?

Yes, the .bat file is in the same proper folder. I'll have to look at my history to find the checksum...

Yes, same folder... Based on the post above, maybe it was a bad download? Looks like I'll be taking another 1.x GB hit to by internet data to try to download it somewhere else..

UPDATE: I tried manually going to the command line, navigating to the folder and running the batch file again, now the error isn't displaying any more..

I'm rooted now - Matt, your utility is awesome. You're the man.

Detailed instructions for those that were also getting the abd error but everything else seemed correct:

After the typical troubleshooting:
  • I had to go to the Run prompt, type cmd, hit enter.
  • Type cd and then the directory & enter. (example: cd C:\DroidRazrUtility181)
  • Type DroidRAZRUtility and hit enter.
From there, it ran by itself, restarted a few times and I came back rooted.

If you plan on using the utility often, i suggest you add it to your "PATH" then you wont need to open CMD then change directory then run the utility every time you use it..... thats what i did, saves a few keystrokes if nothing else :).....glad you got everything working and rooted :)

Look in the GSM part of forums for functions you need, and you will probably find what you're looking for.

It should work for any ubuntu build. They're always a little different on command line depending on the distro, but you ubuntu guys are usually better at terminal commands than most anyway! :)

Sounds good. And if you come up with any pointers / discoveries that we can add to the Read Me tutorial, it would be much appreciated. :-)
