Been reading up on Matt's utility. Wonderful stuff and I've used his previous for GB rooting etc.
I'm a bit confused on the process to go from an OTA6.12.181 rooted, boostrap recovery phone to an ICS build so I can start looking at ICS roms. Is there a prep step with Util 1.7 that I need to go through?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Think I've got it figured out, so unless someone wants to load up this thread with a step by step for others who may be looking, I'm set here.

as far as rooting the only reason i did it was for mobile hotspot but that didn't seem to work when i installed 214. will i not be able to do this regardless of kernel?

Basiclly after installing 6.16.211, and it reboots. It will show android with the networked convex or whatever in his chest and a loading bar below it. The loading ar fully loads and after it getting to what looks like 100% it sits for about a min. Then the bar goes away (Android figure still there) and sits for a few seconds, then the phone reboots. Its shows the Dual Core logo for a few seconds then the screen goes black. But when I say black, I mean blacklit black (screen is on but its all black) and sits and does nothing. Additinally if I have the USB plugged it, it opens that verizons installer as a drive on my compter and opens that verizon download page. And to force turn it off I have to hold up/down and power for 8 seconds. And everytime I boot after this, it just shows the Dual Core logo and goes to black screen.
Here is what I did before this, I dont think I bricked the phone, as I can still get into AP Fastboot:
Backed up everything, and used Voodoo to protect root. (Though I did forget to temp remove root)
Then rebooted in AP fastboot
NOW, heres were I think I f'ed up. I did option 6 first "Flash 6.16.211 boot.img (official kernel)" and then after that I did option 1.
After doing option 1, and cleared user data, rebooted and did what I said above.
I have tried reinstalling via option 1 multiple times but still get a black sceen every time I reboot after the inital android loading installing screen.
Any Ideas on how to fix? Or have a royally f'ed up and bricked my phone?

I have ran into an issue when upgrading to the ICS from the last previous offical update last year. (used Droid Razar Util back then to because it would fail when I tried to do it offically via software update)

Not sure I understand. Are you coming from GB trying to get ICS? If so you need 1.7 utility

Why would you go and do something like that? Blasphemy....
Maybe he found that ICS is a piece of crap on his phone like it is on my Droid RAZR.

i went through the entire process the first time but i found that the #7 option with kernel 214 ran terrible slow/choppy and the radio seem inferior. so now i've gone back through step one and i'm 211. i've not started any other step of the utility.....at this point am i rooted just running an older kernel or am i not rooted at all?

how long did you let it run after using option 7? It will be extremely "choppy" for the first several minutes as it is "settling in"., as a rule when flashing kernels you should give it 20-30 minutes to settle in.

My DROID RAZR used to go almost 2 full days between charges. NOW, I'm lucky if I have 20% left after 6 hours. That's with a very dim screen and ALL the useful apps turned off. Not sure what ikream ROM is but I plan to try .215 after a fdr tomorrow.

Ikream is the ROM that is made by R3Ds, which due to a "conflict" he choose to remove from this site and start his own message board, which can be found at
I was getting very close to the same battery as GB when running Ikream 2.0 with the .211 kernel, just flashed the .214 kernel using this utility, will report battery life differences later.

1.49MB 22 downloads when i use the utility 1.8 option 1 i get this! im also on a eclipse rom!
are you in AP fastboot mode? did you install the drivers (32-bit or 64-bit depending on your computer)? after putting the phone into AP fastboot and plugging to the computer did you give the computer time to setup the drivers? Did you unzip the whole set of files?

I would say you didn't extract the entire contents of folder. Extract all files into it's own folder.

Settings > Developer Options > check USB debugging. On pulldown menu USB connections set to MTP.. Security > allow non market downloads
