Hey so I am thinking of getting the Droid Maxx and was curious with the question of how many of you guys would appreciate development on this phone? I would develop some stuff for it naturally as I can't leave it stock, its just unacceptable in my mind haha.

Alright thats good to hear, Thanks deejay, I appreciate it. The only thing holding me back on this phone is the update rollouts. It seems like it might be similiar to the hold fashioned 4-8 months for updates while the Moto x gets them relatively quick.

I sure hope not, but wouldn't be surprised either. The internals are pretty much identical on the moto x so you wouldn't think Motorola would have to change much to release. I've learned not to get my hopes up with moto and Verizon both though ha ;p

I got my Dev Edition yesterday. Unlocked my bootloader and rooted within 2 hours. Now it's time to flash. I'm wondering what recovery I should go with. I don't NEED to SafeStrap, but I like having the ability to switch between ROMS easily. Any suggestions?

Well, safestrap is not setup for regular devices that don't have the recovery part wiped so I do not think it would work well. What I would do is flash the TWRP for it on XDA-developers. The forum section there for Droid Ultra is where you should go to find a recovery. I wish I could afford a dev edition

A simple debloated and deodexed ROM would be sufficient for now I would think

fat-fingered and Maxx-ed out.

Signed up for an account here to say.... me.

Just decided to root for the first time, pretty comfortable now in case I brick the phone since I'm eligible for an upgrade. Would like to push this puppy to the limit though instead!

Well, if you have a dev edition and are unlocked you can flash Moto X ROMs. You loose the capacitive keys but gain the on screen keys. I ran Nitro's Eclipse for a day or so, but I don't like giving up the screen space. other than that it ran nice. I also know there is a CM 10.2 nightly that seems to work pretty well.

I wouldn't expect anything serious until a couple weeks after KK.

How much can actually be done with the non dev edition? I am pretty satisfied with stock 4.2.2 xposed framework and GravityBox. I wasn't aware it was possible to have a custom rom on this phone. I'd probably pay for on.

Removal of all 'bloatware' would be a huge plus. The core software is fine, but I don't know what's safe to excise, and how to remove integrated apps that have better third-party equivalents.

I'm currently contemplating paying a $100 deductible to get insurance to replace my Maxx because I updated to 4.4 before permanently removing write protection.

So ya, I'd be extremely interested in some more development for this phone. Like a root method for 4.4...
