You should consider doing Loki and flashing a recovery as well -

That way you can do a full backup and store it on your computer as well just for those cases.
Apps and data should be ok.

I personally like TWRP only because that is what SafeStrap was/is built from. As for battery life, the G2 has amazing life just on stock without messing around for me.

That's cool! I am one of those that charges every night, so as long as my battery makes it all day without any issues regardless of they type of usage, I am content I am sure there are others that would benefit by adjusting their speeds down a notch.
