I believe that Matt stated the only difference between the .211 and the .214 was the boot.img. It only changed the kernel and nothing else changed. I'm no programmer so I would have no way at all to verify that, but I did use the utility to flash just the boot.img and it worked perfectly. I was on stock .211 debloated and rooted, and I didnt change a thing before I flashed the file. Kept root and didnt change a thing.

Well its not the ONLY difference, but one LTE ril was changed, and a few minor other library files were updated.

I rebooted, checked my "About Phone" and I have the Kernel version listed as June 29 22:33:44 CDT 2012 but my "Build date" is still Thu Jun 14 14:57:16 CDT 2012

Is that how it should be?

Do you have apps frozen? I think I had this error as well. I just did a full wipe to return to factory settings and it took. Not ideal, so you may want to defrost things first...

No, I read the thread first, all of it. I defrosted all frozen apps before doing it.

I just updated from stock .211. It was quick and painless. My build date and kernel both show a 6/29 date.

I got the same error twice. I rebooted the phone normally and checked my "About Phone" and it now says my Kernel Version is June 29th, and I still have root. It seems to have still worked, how, I dunno LOL

There we go, directly from the man himself. I think he made the utility to flash the boot.img for those of you on custom ROM's so that you could benefit from .214 without all the work of reflashing everything. It was late last night and I didnt want to screw up my phone, so I opted just to use the utility even though I was on stock .211. I guess maybe I'll flash the entire update later tonight just incase the other stuff made a huge deal.

Okay well every now and then we are entitled to a dumb question lol so here it is if we were to upgrade to .214 using the zip file. could we not go back to .211 using the 1.7 utility by running option 2? Or would we have to use the downgrade zip?

Too soon to tell about battery life, but the first thing I noticed is it seems much "snappier" ... pretty quick and snappy. Also not sure if they did something to the notification bar, but the notification icons look a little bit better ... not completely sure. The Gmail notification is actually clear enough to see the "M" ... don't remember it being like that before, notification icons were pretty dim. My battery life has been great anyway, so if it improves it, I will be very happy. Got all the bloat re-frozen and now it's time to play around and test it out. Thanks again Matt! B)

just flashed the kernel over eclipse 1.1 custom rom using the utility. the kernel version reads 3.0.8 with a build date of Jun 29th but system version reads 211 still and the build date has not changed from Jun 14th. all this is normal right? no need to wipe, flash, and re-root to go from 211 to 214 as long as we got the kernel update, correct?

Since the kernel is really the only thing changed in this update you really don't need to do anything else. As long as your kernel has changed then you're fine.

Option 2 in the 1.7 Utility, reinstall 6.16.211 zip from Motorola Recovery.
