Thank you. So the .181 fastboot in Matt's 1.6 utility will trick it into thinking it's 181, or will that flat out brick it? Or is it in the 1.7 utility? I apoligize if these are stupid questions. I seem to overlook the obvious sometimes. Just want to know what my "start from scratch" option is now.

This is what 1.7 does to "unbrick" on Option 2.

Flashes these files from 6.12.181: system.img & preinstall.img (radio too, might as well.)
Flashes these files from 6.16.211: boot211.img

After this option you boot into Motorola Recovery. If you see an android loading files, let it finished, then reboot and go back to recovery.

Wipe data (recommended) and cache.

Install update from external storage (Choose the 211 update zip).

????

Profit. (Back on stock 211)

Thank you so much. About to beat a dead horse now. So no matter what rom or update of ics. I just select option 2 and then wipe and install the 211 update zip. Then I'm back and fresh? :)

So, I used Matt's utility to flash the new .214 kernel without a hitch on my rooted razr.... I'm running a custom ROM with safestrap installed and in safe mode...... My question is...After the update to .214 kernel,...could I still toggle back to unsafe side of safestrap and be ok with the untouched stock .211 ics on my first system?

also wondering this as well.

Yes. Kernel will persist.

Safestrap, bootstrap, nandroids, do not affect the kernel at all.

Thanks Matt,

I ran your utility (option 3) on a rooted safestraped Maxx running eclipse 1.1 without clearing any data or cashe. Just so people can see the before and after i have included screen shots. Notice the only change is the kernel the build date didn't change and wont change unless you use the other option and blast out the system back to stock. And no it didn't take over 7 hours to complete, I was going to do it at work so I took the before screenshot then went to play volleyball at the beach and didn't get around to running the utility until later at home. Took less than a minute.

What are our testers saying today on their second charge? Battery life words of wisdom? I know Matt is getting good life. Has it improved for others as well? I had to revert, as I'm going on a trip and couldn't take the chance that it would stay as-is on first boot (awful) for me. Interested to hear...

Did the same thing. Wondering if its worth it to just install .214 the long way instead of just flashing the boot img where it doesnt show that it updated in the system version or am I just being paranoid? My Kernel Version is 6.29.12 now also.

I'm going to hold a few. I was hoping for a radio update, because since ics 3g hasn't been bad, but it hasn't been good as 181 either.

Personally, I like having both dates in agreement, for my OCD. Besides, doing the whole "long way" takes less then 5 minutes total...

Hi Matt,
I'm new to the Droid Razr world coming from the HTC Eris world. I have a question and you seem to be the one who can answer. I used your 1.7 utility to install the ICS OTA .211 from .181. Then I used your "small utility" to get the .214 upgrade. This is all on the unsafe side of safestrap. I don't have anything installed on the safe side yet. So, my question is can I follow the same process I mentioned above to have the ICS OTA with the upgrade to .214 on my safeside? I am not sure if I could just toggle to the safeside and install your .211 OTA from within the recovery kinda like a custom rom would be done. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Welcome, From what I understand the 214 is a kernel update. That being said, it will persist on both the safe and unsafe sides. Soooo, for your safe side, find a .21x ROM you want to try and have at it! :-)

Thanks kokodroid. Just so I'm clear, I can install the .zip from the OP in safestrap on my safeside and use that as my ROM?

I used Matt's utility to install .214 with no problems. Prior to .214 I was on OTA .211 rooted with safestrap installed. Now, is there any reason I should run the .214 zip file using motorecovery to install the other few files that come with .214 or should I leave well enough alone? If I do run motorecover, do you run that rooted or non-rooted? Thanks.

Pretty good battery life on 214 for me too. On a regular Razr nonetheless.
