This thread got a little confusing as well as being a bit over my head.
like most other Razr HD users I had root (boot loader locked) then the update fried my root.
after following a few things I found on this forum I ended up killing my boot function. it wouldn't go to normal boot.
I've since used Droid RAZR HD Utility 1.33 to repair the boot image and it worked with the boot.img it came with...
long story short, I'm back to stock with 9.18.94, and all I want is stinkin root access
bear in mind my boot loader is locked and I have no intention to unlock it as I don't have a requirement for anything but root access...
can someone please assist me in just gaining root access again?
thanks so much

No. you cannot get root. We have posted the same about 100 times now.

My next question, if I may ask without being made an example of....
If there are tools like the razr hd utility , and there are firmware versions available.. why can't we just flash to a prior version and just use the root that worked for that version, then use rootkeeper to save root prior to the update (provided that even works too)
because I did flash my phone with that hd utility, but noticed that when it came back up and went through setup, apps in play said update and not install which would suggest that they were already installed thus a full flash did not occur.
is there any way to get this thing to completely overwrite the OTA and replace it with an older ver?
if so, attaining root there after is as easy as using the same tool with motochopper all over again, done and done go have a snack.
what do the experts here think?

No sir. The security was upgraded so that it will not allow a flash of older versions. Sadly every idea to get root has tried and failed thus far

It's a good thing you have no intention of doing so, since not only do you not have root access, the unlock exploit has long since been patched.

We certainly agree it would be nice But its not super promising if you just think of it logically. The vulnerabilities are becoming less and less, the people that can find them and then exploit them are relatively few and the 926 is somewhat old at over a year now.

Be careful using random utilities. I've seen several hard bricks from this.

better yet, don't do it. 99% of the time, if an update is more than 10 minutes old, someone has already tried it. Read up on anything before trying it. If you don't have a way out if something goes wrong then that's the clue that you shouldn't. It's not worth risking your daily device on something that isn't proven.Be careful using random utilities. I've seen several hard bricks from this.

Not sure what I am and am not allowed to post on here. I have a link to a root method that works for Razr Maxx HD 9.18.94.xt926. It is
. If links don't show up on here then go to Google and type in k1mu saferoot and open the first search result. The download is at the bottom of the page. Detailed instructions are very easy to follow. Sorry again if I've violated the rules.#34

No worries about the rules man but this info is posted in multiple places around here already. We've know about it for a few weeks now. Thanks for sharing though. Stick around for a bit and check the place out.

ok this is a really stupid question, and I admit that I ama noob. I looking to root my first phone. problem is that it the razr hd xt926. I see that there has not been a post on here for a while soI am guessing that there might be some sort of exploit out now. ok question is that as far as I can telll the only real difference between the razr hd and the razr maxx hs is the better battery life in the max. that being said I found this
so the firmware for the hd is different from the firmare I amrunning now, but the firmware on the maxx hd is the same. is there some snowballs chance in hell that I may now be able to root my hd?? common sense tells me no but I thought I'd ask anyway. thanks in advance.#36

The FW's for the Maxx and the "regular" HD are exactly the same. The are the same exact phone, except for the battery. .1 and .94 are the same exact firmware version, just different version numbers. With all that being said, scroll up ^^^ to post #33 and use the root method posted in that link.
