Hi,

New to the forum. I bought a Verizon Motorola Razr Maxx HD on a recent trip to the USA for use in Singapore. It works with my home carrier in Singapore without any unlock code or hack, so that's not an issue. However, I am unable to tether or get rid of the Verizon bloatware. I have searched everywhere and can't find any method to root a razr maxi hd on 9.18.94. (4.1.2 android)

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm running on a macbook pro, so hopefully there is a mac dmg out there somewhere.

thanks and hope to hear from someone.

I believe you are out of,luck to unlock but you still can root and get safe strap to flash roms and tethering comes with most,of,the custom roms

Hi Wooddale,

Can you point me to the instructions to root the phone and how to apply the roms? the phone is not locked to verizon network (works for my starhub sim). Just want to remove the bloatware and get some better apps.

You can't root it. There is no exploit for this version. The ONLY way to root this is:

1) If you were rooted on a previous version and used Voodoo Root keeper BEFORE applying the OTA. If that's the case, then you'll be rooted when you restore root via Voodoo Rootkeeper. If you didn't use Voodoo Root keeper and applied the OTA AND your bootloader is NOT unlocked, then you are out of luck until/if (and that's a big IF) another exploit is found.

2) If you have an unlocked bootloader, then you can sideload root.

There is no other way to root.

My bootloader is currently UNLOCKED on 9.18.94 stock recovery. Can you tell me how I can sideload root?

If you're unlocked, same advice. Fastboot custom recovery, then flash the supersu zip in recovery.

I cannot win... I was able to fastboot twrp however when I reboot I'm back to stock recovery. I read that I should rename or remove /system/etc/install-recovery.sh but I cannot access the file because I don't have root!

No. Once you flash recovery, shut off your phone and boot it up into recovery without letting the phone boot normal. Else you'll be in a repeating pattern.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I shut the phone off, reboot into recovery using vol up vol down, however it is back to stock recovery.
