I suggest doing a factory restore via stock recovery before running RSD. You don't have to, but it's recommended.

Agreed, its a standard for me.

I used RSD to restore because after upgrading to 6.12.173 I ended up with two of every ringtone. Fastboot went fine, wiped data/factory reset but still shows both. I even looked for them with root explorer and see only one copy, are they stored in more than one place.

Did you look through both sd-int and sd-ext cards? you may have a copy of media files one on each sd card? That would make the tones show up twice in tones list.

This.

If it really comes down to it, you can wipe your system through safestrap or bootstrap recoveries to make sure everything is fresh. Keep in mind the phone absolutely will not boot until you complete a RSD restore if you choose this option as you're literally wiping the OS off the phone.

Thanks for your help as I started to to check both I noticed that I still had the copy of my old preinstall folder on my sd-ext card form when I swapped them out to get .173 to install without the code 7 error's.

Does your screen show a low battery level on the fastboot screen on your phone? If not i would redownload the fastboot files and make sure you get a complete download.

Also did you check the MD5's to make sure you got the file intact?

Just restored my Razr using the fastboot files. everything worked fine and had no errors or problems using RSDlite 5.6. when it was done, my phone was back on 6.11.744 but I still have root. Is that normal? I thought it would return my phone to pure out of the box stock with no root.

EDIT: Nevermind. the superuser app was still there but no permissions. did factory reset and now back to bone stock out of the box. All is good and I can start over.
Remember, crowded elevators smell different to midgets.
