But that still doesn't answer the question. What prevents someone from totally erasing the phone's memory and then totally cloning from another phone? Is the bootloader stored somewhere else such as a computer BIOS, etc?Because your computer doesn't have a locked boot loader and specialized hardware

It goes more into how linux works. But it's similar to how the old bios works. Since you can't modify how it's booting and which partition it will allow you access you can not completely take over control.
Flashing a rom is essentially what you are saying. It wipes the partition you are allowed access to (because of rooting) and putting your software on it

Don't crucify me if I'm wrong but, theoretically, you could erase everything and put whatever you want on it. The problem it's that it won't run a boot loader that hasn't been signed with Motorola's key. So we are stuck with Motorola's boot loader which checks the efuses (Google them) which are set to not allow anything older than the ics kernel. Ics install after version .79 sets the one way Efuse.

So I updated my stock Razr from GB to ICS with the OTA update (CDMA, VZW). In short - I hate it.
I've heard there are some issues surrounding this update that prevent putting a GB ROM back on it? (any GB rom really, but preferably stock since I was happy with it).
Is this true, has anyone experienced attempts at downgrading ICS back to GB on the Droid Razr?
No workarounds yet?
Thanks in advance for comments/input.
The secure version was increased starting on build .84. Once you have flashed an ics build 84+ there is no going back to gb. With a locked bootloader it will never be possible so no need to keep posting here asking if a workaround has been found yet.

-The 'devs' here are not going to provide a method for going back to GB. The "locked" portions of the phone's system software stand in their way. This topic received a lot of attention back when the first ICS leaks came out, and some of our best devs went far enough into this to realize it wasn't practical.
-If you are unhappy with the upgrade that was provided by Motorola, via Verizon, then your best course of action is to contact them. It would be infinitely easier for a Motorola developer, who has full access to the source code, to write a utility that would downgrade to GB. All of the questions about "Why can't we just..." are all answered by that. Yes, it is completely possible and probably not even that hard for someone at Moto to do this. If enough people are truly upset about this and let them know, maybe they will provide something.

Hi. I currently have Stock JellyBean Razr with root, safestrap and dualbooting with CyanogenMod 11 (kitkat).
Does anybody knows how to run any linux distro with the HDMI output or webtop replacement or install webtop 2.0 on Jellybean?
I know all the alternatives that use VNC to access linux desktops on android but I want to use HDMI output directly.
I appreciate any help or directions. Been searching for more than a week with no results.
If only we could replace all the apks from webtop 3 to webtop 2 and flash webtop_signed....
