I'm on OTA CDMA Verizon ICS...Do I need to install Gapps in order to get Safestrap? Because I was going to use the Eclipse ROM. I tried installing the APK and it installs successfully, but when I try to run it, it says "Unfortunately Safestrap has stopped."

Is it because I don't have Gapps? if so...where do I get it?

OK, reading what you just wrote, you clearly have never done anything like this before and have no idea what you are doing, let me try to help.

1. you are on the stock .211 OTA ICS update, it has gmail, google maps, etc. (that group of apps from google is what is known as Gapps), if this is correct proceed to step 2
2. Download DroidRazrUtility 1.81 from here

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

you wil want to have this regardless of what you do, so get it now.
3. Install drivers for your version of windows (32 bit or 64 bit depending on your computer) found in DRU 1.81
4. Run (as administrator, atleast I always do) Droidrazrutility.bat from where you unzipped the utlity to.
5. Choose option 2 and follow onscreen instructions for how to set the phone, when this is done you should be "rooted", if you wish to go to the .215 leak it MUST be done before proceeding to safestrap install
6. once rooted use the utility option 5 to install safestrap, once finished you can now close the utility. if your gonna run a custom ROM there really is no need to do option 3 (voodoo OTA rootkeeper) because to get any further OTA's you will have to fastboot back using option 1 which wipes everything and then redo option 2 followed by option 3 then use the voodoo app to protect root while you do the OTA.
7. Go into your apps on the phone, you will see safestrap in your apps, open it and hit INSTALL, when that finishes you now have safestrap recovery installed and can power down your phone (make sure you have a good charge on the phone, atleast 80%)
8. this is where you can now jump to the OP instructions at "Reboot, then press the Menu button on your phone to boot into the recovery" and follow his driections.
SPC_hicks should note in OP that you must be rooted before starting, because otherwise safestrap cannot install recovery and you only need the Gapps for ROM's that have them separately (like eclipse 1.2)

to make it clear Gapps is something you flash IN Safestrap recovery AFTER you have flashed a new ROM, that doesn't have it and have been thru atleast ONE full power cycle (power off and back on). It is never recommended to flash ANYTHING else during the same safestrap "session" as your installing the ROM.

Guys on. 215 busybox installed all permissions set now phone reboots to eye no matter which option i choose' menu or search button. Any ideas

Sounds like you have swapped to the safe side and not flashed a ROM yet. Boot back into recovery and swap back to non-safe system (disable safe system) and the phone should boot back up. if you want to run a custom ROM at that point, find the one you want and read the installation instructions for that specific one. (most installs are identical, but there could be some differences).

got a question for you guys. i installed safestrap the other day and followed these instructions to a t. i enabled safe system but i don't think i made a back up of my stock version. is there anyway to get back to my stock OTA?

Yea run the Utility 1.81 and do option 1. I am sure this will wipe the phone too.

He doesn't need to do that, just needs to disable safe system, that will put him back on his stock system.

ok, why is my Safestrap Ignoring me? I am now running 215 and I used the 1.81 Utility and Install Safestrap, its there and I open it, allow SU Access and I click Install Recovery, it says Complete, but the Recovery State does not change, Still says Not Installed.... I reboot the phone and no change either...

The Install Recovery just seems to be ignoring me....

Sounds like your borked. A full fastboot restore is in order. You need to power off and then back on again but this time, hold power, vol+, vol-. This will bring you into the bootloader menu. From there you use vol- to scroll to AP Fastboot and use vol + to select. Once in this screen you must use RSD lite with the 211 fastboot FXZ files or use Matt's 1.81 utility to restore your device.

And, let's add insult to injury, I you're battery is very low, you are now in a worse place than you thought you were. This will require a factory cable or surgery.

Ok, so got my previous problem fixed and all is well. Now for my next question, If I'm understanding this, unless safe mode is enabled, I can't flash any zips, such as a theme for the stock rom, or google now. If not can someone tell me how I go about flashing a zip onto the stock rom. Thanks in advance.

you can't do ANYTHING to the stock "stock" rom, thats the whole concept of safestrap. Now, what you can do is flash a "stock" deodexed rom to your flashable side and them try and find a theme for that rom, just remember that once you switch sides for the first time you must flash a ROM to this side or the phone won't boot.

Need some help. I have a Droid Razr which i am running in GSM mode. Flashed the GSM (XT910) MIUI using safestrap 2.0. It is working perfectly allright with data. Now when i try to flash a different rom, i reboot and i dont see the safestrap splashscreen. Any ideas what is wrong? Do i have to RSD back to stock to rectify it???
