Figured I'd throw this in here, I got my Razr right as the .748 update came out and mine failed the OTA. Hadn't even rooted yet, Verizon couldn't figure it out and had to get it replaced.

Thank you Matt, I got both SystemUI files swapped out and have lost the notification bar. I tried the update and encountered a new error message. Had "system/framework/framework-res.apk" . As for RSDlite, I get stuck at the first process "1/18" which is something like "allow mbmbootloader....." . After 15min I pull the plug, the only thing wrong with the phone is that in ap fastboot mode it shows "flash failure". I've been working at using SDKs adb; "adb devices" has shown two different serial numbers on separate occasions. I don't understand it. Also, using adb shows device "offline" and commands don't work. Your Utility doesn't work for me either. I can restore a backup to get the notification bar back as well as the "bad" SystemUI, and I will download both the razrutility and RSDlite again and start over. On a positive note Root Explorer works perfectly.(perhaps my HP laptop/windows7 has a problem)? I have also considered the possibility that there's something wrong with this Razr748. I love the challenge, learning a lot, thanks again.

Okay, I did it, finally fastbooted to the Razr173 ROM. Turns out it was the drivers. To browse and update drivers in the device manager wasn't enough. I used USBDeview to see what drivers were being used. I had four drivers for one serial number. I uninstalled them then plugged back in, no drivers loaded so I reinstalled PDAnet drivers and viola Matts Razr Utility worked perfectly.Razr Utility 1.42 took me to 2.3.6 rooted with the Razr Bootstrap, and I immediately did a backup. Thanks again.

Newbie question:
1. Where is this preinstall folder located? I downloaded 6.11.744preinstall.zip
2. I purchased root explorer from the google play store, can someone help me out by listing step by step what I need to do with rootexplorer?

Link to this guide "You should only have to do this when RSD Lite and/or Fastboot" so I can try this first.

None of this has helped. I've tried the Android recovery, got the same status 7 on sideload/package.zip. I used matt's fastboot via command line to get to stock. I've looked at my /system/ folder and I don't have apps, only app.

I did the copy/paste/replace .apks and odex files and got a force close and boot looping. I had to flash .173 with the DRUtility. It's very possible i did something wrong, but i just wanted to throw it out there as a possibility. Because i thought, what harm is there in copying files?... so i didn't back anything up and lost it all. Luckily it wasn't anything irreplaceable, but it sucks none the less.
