i have no idea if this is possible, so read up on it first, but i know on xt907, we can flash a firmware from xt905 via a recovery backup which takes out the encryption. You might try flashing a stock xt907 rom in recovery. make sure you do full backup first, and have xml file on hand. It sounds also like this could possibly need that gsm fix done to it with that radiocomm software. not sure. i am only familiar with xt907.

well you would have to do the radiocomm edit to pick up gsm bands... att, tmo, virgin mobile, straight talk. those providers.

actually, i think it's possible that the 201m, uses different bands than we use here in the united states which could be why you're having problems. you could trying flashing say AOKP, then flash the flashable GSM Fix, and if that doesn't work, then the phone doesn't pick up US frequencies. I have ran into this before when i worked for an att retailer. people would buy "unlocked" phones off ebay, thinking they could just throw their sim in, but with a lot of Eastern World phones they are simply programmed differently
