Dudes anyone else have issues with ICS OTA upgrade? I couldn't type my text, the key pad just froze not response, and had to restart; furthermore, when I used Task Killer or update a app the home takes long to redraw. The keyboard freezing hasnt repeated but home screen redraw has happened couple of times now.

FYI for you guys I have family in Florida.3 of them have razrs . They don't root or anything like that.I called them for them to pull the ota. All of them are having little issues. I got them to do a factory data reset and all is well now.

OTA updated, rooted, and this is smooth as butter, I love the way it looks, and the unlock with your face feature. That is quite cool, however, I have also noticed a slight dip in 4G speeds now, anyone else seeing this?

Trying to do option 3 - 4.04 Root through the utility. I have USB debugging connected, am allowing Unknown Sources, and have it connected in Media device mode. However, in the utility it just says "Waiting for device" and never progresses.

yeah, through the stock recovery screen select BP Tools, reboot, script will detect phone, it will reboot again, follow same procedure for each reboot for the root.

I got the ICS OTA upgrade a few days ago with no problems and restored root with VooDoo. Last night I downloaded Matt's 1.7 utility and the ICS file and put the file on my SD card this morning. I just ran the 1.7 utility and installed Safestrap and installed recovery with no problems. So far, I have had no issues with ICS or the 1.7 utility (once I updated the Motorola drivers). Thanks Matt for your excellent work.

1st post here, but I've been here for quite some time. Much thanks to the amazing information I've obtained. Never really even had to ask a question. But... I'm not a root pro.

---------------------------
I previously rooted my my stock new Maxx with utility 1.6 last month and I am on rooted 181 That's it, I do have titanium backup and am backed up, a few bloats frozen.

I can now get the OTA download. I kind of waited, hoping not to have to wipe the phone.

1) Should I merely ust accept the OTA ICS?

2) If I do that, Will I lose root? And just use 1.7 to get root again?

3) OR... Should I get 1.7 first and run something (voodoo etc?) from it before allowing the OTA?

You could simply download VooDoo from the market and install and make a backup of your root. Then unroot using VooDoo and do the OTA update to ICS. You probably need to unfreeze all of your apps.

The stock recovery screen?

I am having the same problem as him. It says waiting for device. This is a brand new phone, all I have done to it so far was activate it, and then update it through OTA to Ice Cream.

How do you get to stock recovery?

hold down Volume Down, Volume Up, and Power button together until your phone resets, then let go of Power button then hold down Power button again.

Thanks for your help.

Ok, I held down all 3 buttons, the screen went black, I let go of all three and immedetly pressed and help down just the power button again, all it does is reboot the phone but never enters the stock recovery screen.

Hold all three buttons for about five to ten seconds. It should hit right to fast boot screen. Then scroll down with volume down then volume up to select..when you see the android belly up hit both volume buttons together real quick.

Thank you. I'll have to investigate that. I sort of thought the 1.7 utility had that capability to unroot, and/or retain root via a method (I seem to remember voodoo mentioned in the menus? been a month, I forget now).

The more I read it appears I need to unfreeze everything as you mention and probably removing misc root programs might not hurt, lol.

Guess I was hoping to just download the OTA and run with it, lol :) Thanks!

This was a very common problem during the soak... recommendations were the same, and upon an FDR, all problems solved.

Yes, 3G and 4G signal strength has been depleted on some devices. This was identified in the soak and Motorola has been informed.

Performing an FDR (Factory Data Reset) should solve the issues you're experiencing. For some devices the OTA caused some wonkieness, Motorola was informed during the soak and the only fix is to do an FDR, so make sure you back up your data using Titanium or MyBackup Root/Pro
