I have used Matts utilities before and with great success and no confusion. But this time I have a few questions before proceeding.

I am coming from 6.14.79, rooted and running great for months now. Want to update to .211 so

I have updated the driver already.

Should I rename the the update file to "update.zip" or leave it as is and copy it to the root on my external sd card?

I plan to then run option 1, I assume this gets me back to 6.12.181

I plan to then get into Motorola Recovery and wipe data and cache

Then do recovery and select the .211 update file and GO!!!!! (I hope)

does this sound right?

well batman thank you i got ICS up and running and all looks ok BUT idk if others are having these problems but this is what im experiencing:

when first rebooted a sign popped up and said something in the lines of gapps shut down or something like that so i then restarted the phone

when booted up again all went perfect until i pressed the HOME button...for some reason the home button doesnt want to work..it still vibrates after pressing it but does not take me home...menu button and back button work perfect but home button and search button are not working at all...

i then pushed the power button to make phone go to sleep when pushing power button again the phone DID NOT go to lock screen it simply just turned the phone back on..i even waited for 2-3 minutes and still the phone didnt go into lock screen.

other than these problems everything looks good..is anyone else having these problems? if so how did you fix it? thanks in advance

Finally got 1.7 Utilities to work, Option #1 executed, booted into AP wipe data and cache X2 times, install 211 from SD...wait...wait...wait. Reboots! YEA!

But my issue is now that even though ICS is running, my home button does not launch the home screen, yes the hardware is OK, tactile feedback indicates that the OS is receiving the input but the home, and search buttons do not activate any functions. Back button works. Is anyone seeing this? Any ideas??

Thanks

OK I had a similar problem...now solved...

Start all over and MAKE SURE that you wipe data and cache. I know that doing it multiple times should not make a difference, but for some reason this worked for me.

Fastboot must not have flashed the files then. Come into chat and I can assist you further.

Hi Matt. How did you help dawg. I got the exact same error message and I did everything he said. I have never flashed any other versions of ICS on to my RAZR.

Try my method, I believe its on page 8, and also confirmed it helped someone else on page 9.. Basicly use option 1 first, wipe date and cashe, (Reboot) Then use option 2, wipe data, see my post fir more details.. I was banging my head for hours till I did those steps.. let me know how it works for you.. Note: Wiping still got all my info and apps back still.. Howerver please do a backup or wright stuff down just in case..

I have tried a full cache and data wipe, have ICS recovery from doing option 1 (twice so far now), downloaded and have the update (the leaked .211 that is titled as a .181) on my external sd card. I am still running into Error 7 and an aborted instillation. Any ideas?

Thanks for the tip. I already read some other peoples posts.

1. What I did was wipe data and cahce.. and reboot. (only once not 3x times like some people)
2. Back to recovery mode and install from external source.
3. It's updating now.. It's on "Patching system files..."

Some people are saying they had to perform a wipe several times. Go figure. I only had to do it once. Just wipe it a few more times.

Some help would be greatly appreciated! Coming from .79 leak.

Steps taken so far:
-Put .211 on my mem card
-Applied Option 1

When going into recovery, I get the android with his chest open and a red triangle with an exclamation warning sign on it. I have tried to repeat the steps 3-4 times with the same result. What piece am I missing?? Currently, I can boot normally into 2.3.6, but obviously this is not what I am after.

Thanks

Since I am stock (non-rooted) on 2.3.6 (6.12.181), which option on the tool will I select? I'm assuming #1?

Also, what are the reboot steps/instructions after that # is selected? I'm pretty vanilla when it comes to this stuff and I'm sick of waiting for VZW. Thank you for any assistance.

Not sure what I did will work for anyone else, but:
  • Wiped data first
  • Repeated step 1 three times (actually not because I thought it would work, but it didn't work the first two times.
  • I rebooted into .181 normally after ONLY doing step 1
  • Then, shut down, booted into stock recovery and installed .211 as an update
  • Rebooted and it worked!
I was coming from safestrap 1.08 with Eclipse 1.3 on a .173 ROM.

See my post on page 8, and confirmed on page 9..

Thanks. It seems I just had the files in the wrong spot (not on the root) and not renamed. Waiting for the update to wrap up now.

you need to press both volume buttons at the same time when you see the red triangle droid to go into recovery. after that flash .211 using stock recovery (install update zip from sd card)...you should be golden.

no it doesn't, I just had to revert back to 181 using 1.6 because for some reason my recovery just wouldn't work after I pushed everything to the phone in 1.7 option 1
