I have a year-old Razr M (XT907), running Android 4.1.2.  Loaded lots of apps with no problems for months.  Then, I think after the last Android update, I began to get low-storage-space warnings.  I deleted a bunch of apps, cleared the cache, deleted data, went back to the original version of apps, but kept getting the warnings.  Now, it says I have 457MB of internal storage, but if I try to install even a very small (2MB) app, it says there's insufficient storage to do the install.  Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I have heard that there is a virus that makes fake duplicates of stuff to eat up your memory. Not sure if it's true but u might consider it and get an antivirus app if u can

Thanks. All photos are on the SD card.  Don't use titanium backup and haven't recovered any backups.  I have scanned with Avast, and it says it's OK.

Check your download folder. Are you rooted, unlocked, using safestrap?

Download folder has a couple of tiny pdf's.  Not rooted, unlocked or using safestrap.

Weird I'd just keep browsing through folder see if anything is taking a lot of space, if you don't find anything you could move all your personnel stuff to SD and do a factory reset. Just a thought.

Also, try clearing cache on any app that you use to view photos/videos, like Twitter, Vine, TheChive, etc.  These apps build huge caches.  I noticed my Chive app temp DL's all of the pics I view.

careful, although the system says "SD card", it's really internal storage.  you want the photos saved to your mnt/external1 folder.  make sure that your camera settings are set to save photos/videos there.

Pictures and music are on the external SD card.  Internal storage shows 448MB available, but I still can update or install anything.

ah, I bet I know what it is.... do you sync Google Play Music?  if so, I think it stores all of the music to the internal storage.

start by going to "manage apps", and then sort by size.  for me, Google Play music is at the top with 1+ GB

I've read somewhere that the app size you see on the Play Store only represents the package installer size.  After it installs, it "unpackages" and takes up its true size.  Your app actually might take up that storage after it's installed. .

Largest app is Chrome (61.89 app, 18.58 data); then Facebook (28.12, 13.28).then Google Search (29.88, 414K).  68 downloaded apps in all (used to have 20+ more before I started getting the low storage warnings).

I've had this issue before. Wish I could remember exactly what I did to fix it. One thing was clear data for the play store app which may have been the issue one time. Another time I just waited till the next day and had no problem. Google play does have some bugs I've noticed.
