Because system is a larger file so any inconsistencies in the USB connection would be amplified. Maybe it's stable enough for an 8k file, but, a several gig file overwhelms it and fails.

Saweet! Success! Changed cable to another oem cable and ran from mac side instead of windows... guessing you were right and the cable was the problem.
Thanks for all your help.
Since you are on this stuff ... what is the best way to flash to page plus?
What does rooting do for me?
One thing I would like to do is get rid of the built in verizon backup that runs everyday ... no way to disable.
Can you get rid of other built in apps that I don't want?

Can't help you with page plus. I know nothing about it. You'll have to search for that one. As you guessed, root allows you to disable stuff that you can't normally disable. I'd get something like Titanium Backup or ROM Toolbox and freeze all the stuff you don't want. DON'T delete it. If for some reason a new update ever gets released you'll want to unfreeze it, protect root, take the update, restore root, and refreeze it all.

So how do I root the phone? Is it complex or can anyone with a little techno do it?

Easyroot. Search for it.

Can anyone confirm or deny whether you can use fastboot to safely revert an OMAP4 Moto (Bionic) radio from the one issued with JB to the one issued with ICS (From the FXZ files)

The radios don't conform to the normal partition security. They have their own security restrictions. So yes, you can flash an older radio to a new version of Android. Whether it's safe or not is debatable. LOL. It simply can be done.

Thank you
This means I can likely revert if it causes problems, I hope. Just need to remember the hard key combination for Bionic to power up into the boot selection screen. I want to say Power+VolDn (Or VolUp)

power+vol up+vol down to bring up the menu. power + vol down to boot directly to AP Fastboot mode.

Flashing the radio worked fine. It didn't solve the problem I was hoping it would, but I can confirm that it doesn't HURT anything and that you can switch back and forth all you want.

Great! Thanks a lot for your information.
By the way, can I flush my phone (droid mini) with the image of droid developer edition 4.4?

I have a xt1080 and it is in fastboot (I think it is)
I downloaded drivers via Motorola (its charging and says connected via fastboot screen)
when I open house of moto I don't see any fxz folder
when I launch it HOM asks for phone (I enter xt1080)
its asks for fastboot or rds ... which ever I enter is says file not found

You have a lot going on there that indicates you didn't read the directions multiple times BEFORE attempting to install. You're missing a bunch of steps. Doing so only causes you grief. Re-read the directions, follow them exactly, and don't skip steps.

WOW! SamuriHL, I just ran your utiltiy and low and behold it seemed to work. So far so good. I had a similar issue trying to install an OTA on my rooted razr m and the phone kept booting into fastboot. Your utility and instructions are awesome! Thanks.
