Sadly this is why I say read, read again, and read one more time before doing. Using an FXZ overwrites the system partition. That means su, and any backup of it, will be lost. Now that you are on this version, you are stuck there with no root and certainly no way to unlock. All of these points have been discussed to death for the version you're on.

Pardon my ignorance in not understanding I wouldn't have a backed up SU.

Well, since you updated, you won't be able to restore your older version backup.  You also can't revert back.  Restoring to factory will only take you back to the latest stock version you were on, it won't take you back to how your phone was when you first purchased it.  There is no way to root 9.30.1.

Thanks @RikRong

Well, how could it be backed up when you overwrite the entire system partition?  An FXZ literally overwrites the partitions, system being one of them.

I thanked you for the process and made it clear of my ignorance (mis-understanding), but thanks again for proving a point.

I misunderstood your response.  Hopefully things change for you guys on the root front.  I'm not very hopeful.  There is a root bounty but so far no one's taken up the challenge.  Some people believe when it's updated to KK maybe then someone will step up and try to root it.

What if my device isn't listed under support? I have xt1058. I really need to fix this phone because I just got it today.

Then you find an FXZ for it and send me the xml or use my script generator to create your own.

The FXZ Script Generator prototype has been updated.  It will now generate FULL and KEEP DATA scripts for RSD, windows batch, and Linux/Mac SH to use with the House of Moto.  It's very simple to use.  You just drop the jar file in your extracted FXZ directory, run it, select the FXZ's xml file, enter your phone's model (xt####), and press the generate scripts button.  This allows those of you that have phones that don't have support files to create your own for any FXZ you possess for your phone.  Have fun kids.  :)

WARNING: It's a PROTOTYPE meaning it very well may cause the End of Times™ if you choose to try it.  Make sure you know what you're doing if you decide to test it.  Basically?  You drop that in your FXZ folder, run it, and pick whether you want a full or keep data flash and see what happens.  I've not tested it AT ALL.  Some brave souls should have a look and see what happens.

Ok, finally got back around to trying to fix my xt912 and I'm struggling to get this to work.  The device was wiped and turned off with no boot recovery installed and will not boot, only shows the motorola insignia then black screen I cannot access fastboot.  When I run the house of moto in RSD the program opens on my pc and immediately closes, if I run it for fastboot it brings up an error stating adbwinapi.dll is missing but the file is in the root folder.  Any suggestions?

Could someone please help a Mac user?

I'm not sure I'm doing this correctly, but I opened a terminal at the HouseOfMoto directory.

I entered

chmod +x HouseOfMoto.sh

sudo bash HouseOfMoto.sh

I entered my password and got:

SamuriHL's House of Moto [xt1080M] 2.0

FXZ: FXZ_xt1080M

Choose option:

1) *xt1080M.sh

2) Change Phone Model

3) Exit

Now what?

did you download the support files for your device? I havent walked thru Sams tool yet as I havent needed it. And I am a Mac user can provide some amount of help.

As for the first commands you set the script executable and then ran it, that looks ok
