JCase is a smart dude, way smarter than I about this stuff, and I say this with zero disrespect, but the statement I heard regarding this bugs me to no end - The root isn't permanent. The device is rooted when in the off state, but as soon as the device is active, root is disabled. - Taking that statement in the literal sense, you can pretty much say that about any device really. You can go as far as to say that the bootloader is unlocked until I turn it on. Of course it is rooted when off, the regulation method is inactive. I guess we will have to wait and see, but I still caution you that if you are concerned at all about root and/or an unlocked bootloader - don't expect someone to do it for you - buy devices that are unlocked by the manufacturer/carrier whether that be dev, gpe or ??? .
Anyone order the Verizon Moto X?

I wish I knew more of the details of this because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. JCase has a good history so he's not a bs artist. I just don't understand what he means by "temporary root until it's turned on". If you have any kind of root access, you should be able to remount system as rewritable. At that point, pushing a su binary and daemon is rather trivial. I think the claims that "all recent Moto devices are about to be rooted" is a bit premature. Again, I don't know the technical aspect of what JCase has found but the description of it sucks, plain and simple.

I'm fairly certain he wasn't saying "when the phone is off" in a literal sense. lol.. To be completely honest achieving root on fully locked devices are completely above my head! I've spent time on irc's with some of them to try to get a better understanding.. yep. still above my head! But I do have faith. If Jcase says there will be root for a device... He will do his best to follow through! To top it off the comment from djrbliss... there should be no doubt!!!

Oh I didn't doubt it. I simply said what was said didn't make sense to me. But clearly things have progressed so this is good news for X users. Now, if you get root, PROTECT IT WITH YOUR LIFE. Can't always assume a new exploit will magically arrive for every OTA thrown out there. I like my method better. Boot into fastboot mode, run a little script I wrote that boots CWM in memory, sideload supersu.zip onto the phone, done. Oh wait, that's right, I have an unlocked phone! hehehe.

I ordered the non-dev version (in black) Friday. $140 after coupon code applied, plus the stupid $30 upgrade charge. Expected delivery is Sept. 5th
As a former crack-flasher from way back in the Windows Pocket PC Kitchen days, I have never even installed a ROM on my Droid Razr (just leaks). Just rooted and some frozen apps and all is great. So the whole bootloader locked business doesn't really bother me. If the battery life is good enough, I may not even worry about rooting it.
Kind of disappointing that they tagged this section with "{developer edition}" :/
I've been debating (since I first added it) on removing the developer edition tag. But the last thing I want is idjots not reading and attempting to install something that won't work. I'll discuss more with other staff.
