I know it hasnt been out long, but im liking this a my next phone but i dont think i can handle total hackablity withdraw. :) so i imagine root is the first step to anything good. Such a safestrap, if something like that is even still possible. So how about it anyone doing any real digging yet?

I'm the same.  I think this is my next phone.  I went to an ATT store to look at Moto X, and its nice and all, but i felt it was just too plain and maybe it didnt feel right in my hand, maybe its just me.  I am looking to get into this phone but i do want to still have root.  I'm sure we will possibly get root, unlocked bootloader, doubt it. then again there are 3 devices, (Ultra/Maxx, Mini, Moto X) that i would think have the same Bootloader so maybe if one gets exploited all others will.

I dont think I would even go AOSP Rom on this device either.  I can deal without all the bells and whistles like battery icon and moving clock and stuff.  I like all the motorola software features.  I would like to see a nice DST/De-bloated build of the stock ROM/Kernel and just rock out with that.  No VZW bloat and useless junk.

Im crossing my fingers that when i go on vacation next week I come back to some good news

The chances for root are very slim at this point.  I wouldn't not plan a purchase on it by any means.  If root and/or an unlocked bootloader are of concern, I would suggest looking at devices that are marketed as unlocked like the developer editions/ nexus or GPE's.  We are at a point in device progression that locked down devices are just that - locked down.  Just food for thought.

I would agree on general principal but the s4 got root and a pseudo unlock so anything is possible. Anything accept Vzw just unlocking our bootloader or allowing gpe phones. And also dev phones kinda suck, the s4 is only 16 GB the moto x has a jacked up color scheme, and the RAZR HD never had a Maxx dev, everyone falls short on there dev phones. Is the best of both worlds to much to ask for $700

The S4 did with the help of the now retired root god. BUT, they have patched that as well with the ME7 update. They've even locked up the root bounty at this point over at the other place. All I'm saying is if root is an important function do not purchase a device expecting that one day someone will obtain root for it, but an unlocked device and that will not be an issue and you will never have to worry about losing it with an ota update.

I know that's exactly why Im try to see if anyone skilled is taking a serious crack at it, before I buy. I know getting another pro like Dan on the case is unlikely I'd just like to know if theres any hope.

I am going to start poking around I recently acquired the device, and I still use my note 2 as my daily driver, so I can brick it if it comes to that

Good luck! FXZ files are available as well, haven't used them myself though.

Can someone pm me who has this device. Also a Linux setup would be ideal but a working windows environment will work.

There's supposedly already a root exploit on XDA for those who weren't aware.
