I am not sure where this should go, but this location seems like it will due for now. Mods, if it is in the wrong place, feel free to relocate it. Which I am sure you would have done with or without my permission.

I was giving a copy of the XT908 SBF file for 4G phones. My initial goal was to take the system.img file xt908 and try it on my xt912; Howerver, I am not brave enough yet to do that. The reason for doing so is because there is no bloat whatsoever.

Well, since I had mentioned that I had this file, some people were asking about, so out of the niceness of my heart, I will do so.

Here it is. Enjoy -->

I believe this is the 4.0.4 file.

Edit: wanted to ask a question.

also now that we have this you think it is possible to make roms for it now and get us xt908 users on android 4.1.2 or maybe even 4.2? we never got the official jelly bean update as Motorola didn't see it necessary because this phone inst so popular

Edit: Update

Downloaded it and it worked like a charm!!! anyone with the fail to boot problem try it out!! thanks!

Excellent!! I am glad that I was able to get this file for you. I am sure a lot of people are going to be downloading it.

As for the 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 update, I am not sure what is being done with that. Since the 908 seems to have a custom made .sbf, it will probably be some time before Motorola puts together a JB for those devices. You can always try contacting a motorola tech and see what they say.

XT908 question for dullawolf  - (hope this thread isn't dead!)  Anyhooo, are you getting 4g on your XT908 with this sbf file?  any modifications required?  I bricked my rooted xt908.  Got it returned to stock 4.0.4 and working again (long story).  I'm still stock unrooted now, but my carrier will be going 4g in November supposedly.  Problem is, they only support 4g on the  IP5 so far.  I know my 908 will handle it, but i'm not sure how to do it.

I'm thinking along these lines:

- re-root

- install ss 3.11

- try your sbf file on a slot and see if 4g works.

Any thoughts, anyone?

thanks

ps also, question on eternityproject's root program - does it put another 'stock' rom on the phone, or does it keep the existing 'original' stock rom?  on my first root experience, I used Matt's utility 1.82 and it put a verizon 'stock' rom on my phone.  it worked, but i could not go back to my original file.  just wondering if the eprj software is different.  thanks!  ;)

Obviously I'm not dullawolf LOL ... but you cant use an sbf on a ROM slot, as it uses fastboot mode which is over and above the ROM slots.... HD tappin' .... hillbilly style!!

Sorry I typed that wrong... you can't (cannot) use sbf on a ROM slot.... as far as 4g .... I'm not sure if the radios included are 4g radios .... they would need to be updated (probably via OTA)

Sbf is used to restore full factory stock settings and software on the phone ... it will wipe everything and then reinstall it....

oh, ok.

now....

i think that the sbf file that was posted contains a radio.img file.

So, if

(1) that file does 4g, and

(2) the file is for the cdma xt908, and

(3) my carrier jives with that file,

then will my phone do 4g if i use that file?

i'm also wondering if i just re-root and put jb on a rom slot, if 4g will work on that slot.

(I'm trying to get 4g even though my carrier isn't going to "give" it to the xt908)!!!

If your carrier is not supporting 4g on your device, AFAIK there really is not a way to get 4g on it....

Ok, here is the thing. There are two xt908 .sbf files. One of them is for companies that only support 3g and the other one is for companies that support both 3g/4g. Lucky for you, the sbf file i was able to acquire is for the companies what support 4g.

I am not going to guarantee anything, but you should be fine to install this .sbf. If the 4g doesn't work right away, you SHOULD still be able to pick up 3g.

Thanks, John and Dulla.  I won't be able to check until my carrier actually offers 4g, which is supposed to be in November.  Stay tuned!
