There's a root method out for att/rogers moto x but you have to be unlocked. id imagine that it would work on the droids as the software and hardware are so close. I'll post the link were I gt home.

Except these are locked. No chance a root for unlocked phones will work on a locked phone.

I'm aware of that. I was more pointing out that development is moving although at the moment the interesting stuff is happening on the unlocked side of the fence.

I didn't realized I had to add "if the ultra were unlocked " kinda thought that would be understood. I was speak purely theoretically

I tried Motochopper and it didn't work. I also tried the official moto unlock tool but it said my device ID wasn't available for unlock.
The SDK and drivers worked perfectly though...
- Install the Android SDK. You can download it here.
- Install the latest Motorola USB Drivers. Get them here.
