I'm not an S4 troll - it's what I have to compare to... so forgive me if I reference that a lot.
I can't figure out if I like it more than my S4 or not (got the Maxx). The touchless controls are lacking honestly... if you want to call someone, you still have to touch "speaker", which I'm assuming you'd want to use if you're calling via voice commands. If you want to text someone, you still have to preview the text and hit send - they need to make that more interactive. Playing music is hit or miss, and again typically requires some physical interaction beyond the initial command. Being able to wake it with a voice command is really freaking cool, especially from across the room... but since a majority of the commands require interaction after the initial command, it renders that feature somewhat useless for now. Active notifications are cool, but only show the latest. On the S4, I control when the "active notification" comes on, still without "touching", though not without being close to it obviously, and it also shows me everything that has a pending notification, though without the details... 6 in one, half a dozen in the other I guess. I find it interesting that the S4's features were called gimmicks, when I find a lot of them more useful (and more consistent) than the Maxx's so far. Public perspective I guess...
Moto Assist is pretty awesome for driving... and pretty awesome that it detects you're driving by your acceleration! It's super helpful, but needs the ability to send a full text back instead of just "I'm driving, will get back to you". But at least it's completely voice interactive.
Camera is much improved and super fast, but still typical Motorola. I think they just must use bad camera hardware... pictures can look great sometimes, and blurry other times, and tend to look cold... though I've been told the S4 oversaturates, so maybe my perspective is skewed. Anything below well-lit will look like an over-processed grainy mess, even if it does take in more light. Flash shots are pretty weak, especially compared to the S4. But it is super fast. I would say it's MUCH improved over previous Moto devices, but still not in the same league as the S4 or iPhone 5 when it comes to consistency and quality of photos.
External speaker is awesome... screen is gorgeous... I thought I'd be disappointed in the screen coming from the S4, but I haven't at all. It's great.
It's super super fast and smooth - no lag anywhere... barely the occasional "jitter" only when downloading / installing a lot of apps. If someone did a blind usage test, I guarantee this phone would be deemed to have a better processor next to the S4 and even the One, without doing benchmarks.
Despite my complaints, I still love it and can't decide which to stick with. Ultimately I'll probably end up with the S4 just because a good camera is so important to me... but I'm probably in the minority on that reason.
