[BETA] Here it is, the APK for the New Moto X's camera app, that has been outed so that anyone with an Android phone can theoretically install it. The problem is that not all of the features are working.


What works


  • The camera runs fine.
  • Tutorial.
  • Single shots.
  • Burst shots.
  • Video recording.
  • Front-facing camera toggle.
  • Swipe to open settings.
  • Swipe to open gallery, which asks which gallery app you want to launch.
  • Touch to focus toggle.
  • Flash mode toggle.
  • Shutter sound toggle.
  • Geo-tag toggle.

What doesn't work

  • Double-flick wrist gesture to launch the camera anytime.
  • Panorama mode currently crashes. It seems to be missing a required class, and I'm not sure whether we'd be able to fix it or not. If we can, I'll post an updated APK. For the interested, the error log is

  • HDR mode is disabled and cannot be enabled. THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH THE XT926 on 4.2.2 HDR Mode works in FULL

    Slow-motion mode is disabled and cannot be enabled. THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH THE XT926 on 4.2.2 Slow-motion can be enabled and disabled

The APK was tested on a Nexus 4 running android 4.3 and a Note II running Android 4.1.2. The results were identical.

Theoretically, it should work on all devices. I have been getting a signature error, which I am looking into and hoping others test it out. While the app was publicly announced a few days ago, some sources had to remove the apk while I managed to find a few other sources that were able to keep the apk. 

 

The results that were posted to what worked and didn't work was based on the Nexus 4 and Galaxy Note 2, testing out on our Motorola devices results will vary. I should mention this, if in fact this does install on your device, it will overwrite the default systems camera apk.

So far..... installed fine, (directly over current camera apk no conflicting signatures)..... flash works fine..... light works fine (video camera) ..... multi shot works, a bit slower than I prefer but it works (up to 27 continuous shots) .....

Gonna rip it apart and see if I can get slo-mo (worth a shot, might be fun to play with)

The working and non-working lists in OP are accurate

Above all (for me anyway) the UI is better than most that I've seen/used...... its simple .... no more fumbling for the small shutter button YAY !!! (Great for those of us with fat fingers).......

If you use root explorer (or equivalent) you can rename it...... you can also freeze it with titanium (or equivalent)....:)
