<snip>  And no, there are no known mirrors for the files.

Not exactly true . . . 'cough, cough' . .  I don't have that link in my sig for nothing.  You might find one or two of them there, though my server is slower than the second coming . . . . may as well make it an all night download thing.

Unfortunately, I don't have the fastboot files saved on my computer.  Earp might be our savior.

Hi, im new here, but been 4 years on android since froyo.

Once i got my xt907 yesterday, tried to root it, and got flash failed because mine is already 98.18.94. i made it to boot again (HAPPY) using matts DROID_RAZR_M_Utility_1.20. im kinda glad with this achievement. as for today, matts utility wont downgrade the sistem.img. so i believe 98.18.94 wont get rooted soon. that's what i can inform for those got flash failed and on 98.18.94. dunno whether works for 98.30.1 or not. and waiting for another exploit for rooting xt907 on 98.18.94. thanks.

We've already realized that... But thanks for telling us lol, I've attempted to get root several times, and messed up every time. Come on Motorola, cut us some slack!

You're lucky you didn't soft-brick.  1.20 was from April and was two system versions ago.  As for downgrading, that was patched up with the OTA in May.  Downgrading won't work on .1 either, they're same updates, just different versions depending on your previous system version.

have any of you tried to use rsd to flash system.img that belongs to .78? i mean like changing the md5, or even changing the line like :

<software_version version="smq_vzw-user 4.1.2 9.8.1Q-94-1 77 release-keysSM_BP_101032.021.32.80P" />

that what belongs to:

<software_version version="smq_vzw-user 4.1.2 9.8.1Q-66 28 release-keysSM_BP_101031.027.32.81P" />

? just curious, wanted to try but lacks of resources because slow internet connection. i've read the forum like :

downgraded security version
gpt_main version failed
preflash validation failed for GPT

can be skipped by changing the xml? does anyone know how to open system.img file?

AFAIK ...... The security (that gives that error) lives in the TZ partition........and you cannot downgrade past it..... also, opening/editing, recompiling the .ext4 images is a fairly simple process using ext4 tools in Linux (Google ext4 tools or simg2img)..... however.... once "opened" the signature is "broken" and thus cannot be flashed to locked devices via FXZ .....

It's more complicated than that.  TZ is the trusted zone partition and can't be downgraded on any phone...unlocked or not.  On locked phones, the gpt_main partition controls the security versions of the other partitions.  On these phones, unless it's changed recently, the system partition is not security locked so you could flash it.  But why?  What's the "hoped gain" by doing so?  The root exploit lives in the kernel, not the system files.  That's the boot.img and in the latest versions, they are most definitely security locked to prevent downgrading.  Hence why so many people who failed to read and comprehend the warnings were bricking their phones thinking "it doesn't apply to me".  They learned the hard way, they were wrong to ignore the warning.  There is no "getting around it".

Thank you! I was able to get the first file but I couldn't find the second file on your server. The download is slow, but I won't complain about that. A slow mirror is always better than no mirror.

By first file I mean - VRZ_XT907_9.8.1Q-66-1_1FF.xml.zip - and by second file I mean - VRZ_XT907_9.8.1Q-78-1_1FF.xml.zip - just so I'm being perfectly clear.

I'll first admit to being a total noob to this. That being said, I am on version 98.18.94.XT907. Verizon.en.US of 4.1.2. What utility can I use to gain root on my phone?

Lol, people really need to actually go back a couple pages and read forums so the same question isn't posted over and over again.
