Lol. Too many boots in this damn thread for me. And yeah, I have reading problems everyday. Haha. I knew something wasn't right, obviously you knew fb works. Lol

I've uh used it a "few times" yea.  ;)  I just automated a rooting process for the S4 using fastboot boot to temporarily load CWM and sideload the SuperSU zip.  The same process would work for an unlocked RAZR HD or M but the fastboot boot command isn't allowed on a locked phone.  Which I think is reasonable given that it's a giant security hole.  LOL

Thank you everyone who has made this happen!  It worked flawlessly to get my root back on my Razr Maxx HD after the OTA.  Hindsight is 20/20, and I've remembered to install Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper! :-)

Hi everyone im still a newbie to this rooting thing But I do have some questions if anyone is kind enough to answer.  I currently have version 9.16.6 and the phone wants to install 9.18.79 the phone is rooted but not unlocked. questions are the following.

1. Do I update the phone to version 9.18.79 and then just root.  Do I have to unroot the phone first before I can update??

2. If I root can the phone be unrooted??

I don't want to unlock the Bootloader in case I want to return the phone for any reason (malfuction, dead screen etc)

Thanks to all in advance . And please excuse my idiocy :D

UGH.  What people would do to be in your situation.  LOL :)  You can take the update and then use the motochopper 1.1 to root it.  If I were in that situation, well I'd unlock it but, besides that if I were in the situation where I wanted the update and didn't want to unlock right now.....what would I do.  I would probably create a custom xml script for the 79 FXZ that would keep your data and skip flashing the TZ partition so that the ability to unlock in the future isn't lost.

I don't speak your language LMAO!!! :D sounds like a smart thing to do I do see your points (very good points ) however I wouldn't know what or where to start with this XML script for the 79 FXZ lol! Im gonna hold off and read some more on this. Thank you for your advice .

Not that I'm in the RAZR HD scripting game anymore, but, let's just hypothetically say you followed these steps:

Download the following:

o)

o)

Then did the following:

o) Unzip and install RSD Lite 6.1.5

o) Unzip the VRZ_XT926_9.8.1Q-79-1_CFC.xml.zip to a folder on your desktop

o) Put the UPGRADE.xml file into the same directory that you just extracted (It should be at the same level as the files in the VRZ_XT926_9.8.1Q-79-1_CFC.xml.zip you extracted)

o) Turn off your phone

o) Hold Volume Down while holding power

o) Plug it into a USB port

o) Open RSD

o) Press the ... button and select the UPGRADE.xml file

o) Flashed it while having a beer

That would perhaps do the things I mentioned I'd probably do myself if I found myself in a situation where I might want to unlock in the future but still wanted the latest update.  But that's just me.  :D

I couldn't be any more jealous at the moment...

So I have one question for you gurus out there.  When (if?) the Razr MAXX HD is upgraded to 4.2, would there be a possibility that at that point the phone could be unlocked again.  (As you see, I'm trying to hold on to any silver lining there may be.)  If not, then with the upgraded kernel at that point, we would at least be able to install 4.2 based ROMs using safestrap, correct?

It is 99.9% that the bootloader will never be unlocked again. It happened 9 months after the phone came out. We got lucky but that exploit has been patched. Also the unlocker god is considered retired at this point

But, on the update of 4.2, I will be able to take the update, re-root, and then use ROMs based on the 4.2 kernel? Using safestrap of course.

In theory yes. But we don't yet know the hassle of rooting that update if it ever comes of course.

Don't bet on being able to easily root new versions going forward. The boot img trick I did for this works because they're both 4.1.2. They could make it so you can't downgrade the boot img altogether next time. Protect it with Voodoo.

Just checking that the motochopper 1.1 will work for the 9.20.1.XT926 version as well. OP says 9.18 only.

I hate to be "that guy", but the .zip doesn't have all the necessary files for running the script on linux. I know ADB is missing, and I don't know what all else is gone.
