I've posted a new version of Motochopper in the OP. I had a revelation tonight that I think you're all going to love. Forget downgrading, rooting, protecting root, OTA updating, restoring root...blah blah blah. Who has time for that nonsense? :D Just go enjoy the RAZR HD specific version of Motochopper 1.1. As always, thank you to DJRBliss for the original Motochopper exploit. It lives once again thanks to a small bit of "light bulb" moment I had. Enjoy!

Thanks for continuing to improve user experience in the razr maxx hd!

Sam, a suggestion to trim your code down. I see you're flashing the old boot image, booting up, rooting, then going back out to fastboot and reflashing the current boot image.

Change the first command from fastboot flash to

$ Fastboot boot boot boot_old.img
$ Fastboot continue

Then the device will boot up on the old kernel but only temporarily. Then the script can continue the root process and reboot the phone, which will automatically boot back up on the current boot.img as the older one wasn't permanently flashed.

Just saves a few steps. :)

Won't work on a locked phone.  ;)

It won't boot the previous kernel, but it'll flash it?

Yup.

Hm, wonder why. Even with a signed boot image they would do that. Strange. I guess I never tried it on a locked phone. Oh well

The fastboot boot command itself doesn't work on a locked phone.

I'm sure this is a dumb question, but my version is XT926 on 9.18.79, not 98.18.79. Does this mean this won't work for my phone?

Just an FYI, this worked on my new DROID MAXX HD after I inadvertantly updated to 9.18.79 build (when I installed the USB drivers).

thanks! :)

Use a root app?  Or load up root checker?

Poops, I spoke too soon.     First, it worked.... finally.

I've tried several root tools, including motochopper.   I'll try, no success, give up for a few week.  So, I try again today.  I found this site, signed up to see the "link to the 1.1 motochopper"  I tried it, no luck.

I CLOSELY followed instructions and realized I needed to "click again" to continue.  So, lesson to all (like, Samuri said).  Make sure you follow the instructions, you'll be "clicking to continue" and restarting the phone more than once.

(Now, how the heck do I get rid of those crappy OEM apps like NFL, MW3 and/or start ROMming)

That's not 100% accurate.  You can use safestrap on a locked phone to rom.

Or course it does. I've restored my of razr and pre-unlocked Hd many, many times using nothing but fastboot commands and Fastboot files. Where in the world did you hear fastboot doesn't work on locked phones?

As long as the image is a signed image (like the files that leak from moto) and the secure version matches, you very much can use fastboot on a locked phone.

Are you having reading problems today?  :D  I didn't say fastboot didn't work.  I said the fastboot boot command doesn't work on locked phones.
