No custom recovery. If the link posted above was for me, it seems broken. Can you post a how to or another link?

ok, so I was uploading the second zip with the kernel that is supposed to fix the pip camera and smart scroll issues, but after I reboot it will not mount my sd card. reverted back to darkslides rooted zip and everything was back to normal. My card would attempt to mount and give some text on the notification bar like "Mounting SD Card, checking for errors" but it would not mount. In the storage section of the settings, You can press 'Mount SD Card' but the same results and same text from above, but would not mount.
anyone else experience this?

hmmm, another strange issue. When I first flashed this zip, I specifically remember seeing the wifi toggle button. Then had the issue above and reflashed the zip and everything seemed to go back to normal. Yet today when I arrived to the office and checking some stuff on the phone I noticed that the wifi toggle button is not there when to get the buttons, but still not there. Weird. Should I reflash the zip?

I did use titanium backup to restore and I noticed that it restored 'Android System' I just thought maybe it had to do something with putting my settings back, but im sure that didnt have anything to do with it, but i am unsure.
I will reflash right now and report back. I will make a note to look for the wifi toggle and will not restore 'Android System' at first. Thanks for your input Rick, truly appreciate it.

Some kernels only accept certain formats. So you would have to format the card for it to work.

The new kernel only works with FAT32 and ext4 formats, not exFAT, which is what your SD card is likely formatted in.

so, go home, grab a spare card, format it FAT32 and not exFAT which is how its supposed to be formatted for the full zip? hahaha you gotta do it different for each zip. didnt know that, will try when i get home tho.

Just went through the xda thread and it looks like this has been confirmed. Incase others are having the same issue with installing the kernel.

The issue is the kernel...only the stock Samsung kernels in MDK and ME7 official ROMs support the exFAT format, which is proprietary (not open source) owned by Microsoft and licensed by Samsung. The MDK and ME7 stock kernels also support ext4 and FAT32.
The first release of this ROM used the stock MDK kernel, so exFAT was supported. But that meant a few features (PIP, SmartStay, etc.) didn't work. A different kernel (Elite) from our dev community is required to enable those features.
The kernels that our devs develop (for the most part) don't support to the exFAT format, they only support ext4 and FAT32, as they don't have the proprietary code from Microsoft to support exFAT.
There is always an exception, however...one dev S4 kernel has some exFAT support built into it courtesy of a community member that wrote some custom code to do so, but the support is not 100% - works for most evidently, but not for all. I think that's the Ktoonsez kernel, IIRC.
Once you're on ext4 or FAT32, the good thing is that you can then use any of the dev kernels available for the S4 if you want to (though only the Elite kernel is confirmed (AFAIK) to fix the broken PIP/Smartstay on this ROM.

gatesjunior - adding some of this kernel format info to the OP will probably help reduce confusion and thread clogging w/repeated SD format questions.
