I don't have an SD card with me at the moment. Can I work around that and run your downgrade root script or do I need to wait til I have an SDcard available?
#91
Posted 01 August 2013 - 12:50 PM
Well, you can do it another way. The downgrade's fine and you can do that, protect root, etc, without the SDCARD. What you could do is get to the point where you've downgraded, rooted, and protected root. Then let the OTA upgrade run again. You won't need an SDCARD in that case. Once it's finished, restore root and you should be golden.

When you say "I run RSD Lite manually"....what are you flashing with it? For those that have the RSD pop up and go away, you NEED to open sdl.exe in the rsd directory, open the SamuriHL_Downgrade.xml file in the MR2 folder, and flash it. That is the manual version of step 2. If flashing fails, in the rsd directory there's an swdl.txt. Post that here and I'll take a look.

I have a Maxx HD on 9.18.79, rooted but never unlocked, stock recovery, stock ROM. Just used root for some casual app freezing and sqlite changes.
I was perfectly content with my phone on the 9.16.x build (whichever it was before the July OTA), but I signed up for the soak, then took the OTA anyway in hopes that it might incrementally improve battery life or performance.
I am generally content with the stock ROM of this phone, except for a horrid bug in 9.18.79 that seems to afflict only certain people, me unfortunately included.
The bug is that the phone will randomly screen freeze and reboot during use. It happens for me much more often when I play music (Spotify or Google Music), but it can also happen while the phone is sitting on my desk with the screen off, no foreground apps, data usage or sound playing, and 95% battery.
This bug is a showstopper for me because I can't have my phone randomly rebooting 4 times a day while listening to music. I have no proof, but with this bug occurring so close to the launch of the Droid Ultra and Droid Maxx, I suspect Motorola may have intentionally placed this bug to get people to upgrade, thinking they have a broken phone. Even people who have never rooted or unlocked are reporting this problem.
Anyway, my actual question on topic for this thread is, can I permanently downgrade to 9.16.6 (that's MR2, right?) using one of these scripts, or a modification thereof?
I should be able to get another year of good use out of my Maxx HD if I can downgrade to the previous build, hopefully eliminating the random reboot issue, and somehow prevent the automatic OTA check. I have no desire to unlock or use a custom ROM, I just want my phone to work as well as it did before Motorizon went and broke it (on purpose?).
Thanks!
