S4 software update

What will the complications in use of SS be if I get an S4 with a firmware version greater than ME, fm what I've seen; they are up to MJsomething.
In any case, which version of root exploit should I get - & are there any heads-up issues that version Mx of the firmware needs a specific root exploit & Safestrap?
Where would I get the root exploit? Can probably figure out where to get SS on my own… I like it as a recovery.
BTW, what about (native Sammy or 3d party) utils to bring me back to Stock of whichever firmware I get? I've had to use Matt's Droid Razr Util a time or 2 or 3 to fix stuff that happens.
thanks much, (may have to change my forum name when I get the next phone. Whatis the S4's model name?
All the best, SpyderMan
Thanks for sharing about not being able to 'fastboot'back (or is it Odin in the Sammy world) to Stock. It was the same thing for f'ware versions in ICS & JB, you often if never can go back when the manufacturers clamp down… :-(

soocold, thanks for your input,
I can't afford a Dev Edition, or I'd get the N3 dev edition while I was spending so much; but the S4 is not exactly chopped liver.... lots of good stuff in the good old Stock over & above what I have in my old Razr Maxx - I tweaked the heck out of that, but w/the Black Friday price I couldn't hold back! Staples had it for $.01 & they didn't even bother to charge me...
I just brought home the S4 w/the firmware blahblah MI1, so apparently I can use the De La Vega root method & a version of Safestrap, Mostly want that for the ability to do a nand backup.... I've gotten myself into some hot water any number of times that was simply fixed by restoring a nand...
Any tips? I would especially want to confirm what the tech in Staples told me about the update which I need to avoid at all costs,
Can you receive the update completely & have it sit on your device & just tell it you decline installing the update? Right there in the store; when the SIM was registered to VZW, immediately, the phone searched for & found & started to d/l the update, but on my urging, the techie opened the Notification bar, long pressed the entry that showed the download progress, hit the App Info button there & did a Force Stop; if my S4 gets updated, I'd have to resort to dubious root methods & also have to wait for Hashcode (bless him for all of his work) to find an exploit to get SafeStrap onto the MJ7 firmware / broadband version & that is not what I want to do...
Any help much appreciated; I've modded, & flashed, & restored my Razr Maxx back to Stock, but I am a noob when it comes to Sammy stuff...
TNX, spyderman
P.S. (may have to change my screen name.., what is the code name for the S4? anything besides the model # SCH-I545 ?

[RECOVERY LOCKED/ME7/MI1] Safestrap Recovery v3.65 [2013-11-15]
I honestly have no idea if there are any ROMs for your firmware but if you plan on or have to stay stock, look for what you need to freeze to keep the OTA from triggering.

That should keep the OTA from triggering.

More things I could use help with, please:
1. does downloading the OTA mean that it is then installed, or do you have time to tell the process to NOT install what was just downloaded? Don't want to hae to keep watching for OTA so I can interrupt the d/l… but no way, until I root & freeze the appropriate apps will I be lax in my alertness.
2. how has the vibrate on S4 shown itself to be in terms of strength?
I put S4 in my belt pouch & could barely feel the vibrate & I really need that, my hearing is bad… & in diff situations background noise is enuf to make me miss the ringtone…
3. Does installing Safestrap trip the Knox thingy?
I'm gonna go over some youtube vids I found on xda, & follow instructions fm thread there on rooting MI1… then TiBu will help me get the rest of my apps onto my S4, but are there any files available to Odin back to Stock if I ever need to?
tia, not SCH-I545 man, will have to think up a possible screen name change, or just leave it… dunno
Thanks in advance!

If memory serves, you have the option to install the OTA after downloading it. In the past, I've read that you can download the OTA and change the name; that way your system won't keep trying to install it. Not positive about changing the name of the extension though...haven't taken an OTA in a long time
I don't normally use vibrate....sorry I can't be much help on that one.
I'm sure there are system images available for MI1 you can use if you have to Odin; I have seen the files available for most builds.....again, I'm still on MDK, so I haven't paid that much attention, but I'm sure they are out there.
And I think you should leave it as SpyderMan!
